Hi,
I been using the Amazon echo for custom announces TTS, but find them slow, or unreliable.
Today they were not working, I been trying to connect them again and so far no luck, I had to change the password a few times etc.
I tried both Apps, I been using the Alexa app, and today been tried to connect the Amazon Echo app and so far no luck. Seems to be something with linking the accounts not working.
Any other Speaker or chime that could be used for TTS.
I saw the Yolink speaker Hub seem to work for this could I add more than 1 to Homey?
I just wish it was local and no cloud.
Or any other generic one that should work?
Trying to avoid Sonos as that would be much more $$ but I see there a local App so I guess it should work much more reliable.
Thanks!
I have 8 Google mini’s scattered through out the house with the “cast a text to Google” app. There is a slight delay but it works pretty well.
Hi,
In case you didn’t know:
You can create speaker groups in the Google Home app, which then can be added to Homey as Chromecast “device”.
This makes the sound / speech pretty well in sync, and you only need to use one flow card, the one for the group “device”.
Thanks for the info. I created several groups depending on the specific text and where I want it announced. All speakers are in sync.
Thanks again!
Hi,
Do you find the connection reliable?
I need to see if I can find the google mini.
I was trying to not keep adding more cloud based devices but it seem the local ones are limited or way more expensive for TTS.
I just tried again and cant connect the Alexa to homey dont know what is going on.
There’s 2 Alexa apps and an Alexa integration. With which one(s) your devices don’t seem to connect?
It’s very reliable. I think I’ve had to restart the app just once in the 6 months I’ve had my homey Pro.
I picked up three of my Google mini’s at a thrift store for less that $5 each. For that price I could take a chance if they worked or not. To my surprise, all three did.
I started using the Alexa app.
And noticed it stopped working, did the restart app, then got the Red triangle icon on the echo devices card.
Tried pairing it again and so far is not working it seem that is not finding my account I have to keep entering my email and dont seem to work.
I then downloaded the Amazon Echo app and had not been able to connect, same thing.
oh wow that is a good price for the minis for announcements.
even in ebay the Sonos speaker are at least $100+
I guess I would see if I find some google mini in ebay for a discount, but I would prefer not depending on API or tokens, I think that the problem I been having recently with Amazon Alexa.
Oh well I might order one of those Yolink speaker hub for testing and then report back how it worked for the benefit of all, as it seems no one is using one.
Did you use .com to connect?
Yes, I looked at the configuration and it have .com
Poll connection - say 5 min
the other two: en-US
I am able to get the security code send via text I enter it and then it say We’re unable to verify your mobile number. I do the email and type password and still unable to log in.
