Smpl mini display: battery powered e-ink display made for Homey

UPDATE: HP2023 x smpl

We now have solid experience with the recent updates that has finally made HP2023 and smpl compatible.
Thank you for all your feedback. And please keep sharing, both issues and successes!

  • You need to install the latest Homey experimental firmware (v10.0.0-rc.133) as well as the latest test-version of the smpl Homey app (v2.2.4) to make it work.
  • The latest stable firmware version (v10.0.0-rc.122) does NOT work. And the previous test-version of the smpl Homey app (v2.2.2) will prevent data based on logic variables to update on the display.
  • The smpl firmware version shown in device capabilities is wrong. The correct version is available from the service screen on the display (3-clicks on the back-button, when your display is paired). The production firmware versions of smpl are v1.18 (order#<2129) and v1.19 (order#>=2129). Both versions are compatible. Only main difference is that v1.19 includes a ‘factory reset’ function (hold the back-button while inserting batteries). Reach out to support if you consider updating (be aware that warranty will no longer apply if you perform this action).

We have no problems with either pairing or updating multiple displays in our two HP2023 test environments in Ukraine and the Netherlands. And the same applies at Athom.
Attached pictures shows multiple displays connected the last couple of days to our HP2023 test environments:

If you still have problems:

  • In general:
    • HP2023 is still early release (beta) and fw version rc133 is also experimental (beta).
  • Pairing:
    • The general Zigbee guidelines apply: A) avoid initial pairing in a noisy (zigbee, wifi) environment, B) avoid pairing directly to HP2023 and connect instead via a high quality zigbee router device (plug, light bulb etc.), C) use high quality batteries and make sure they are rather ‘fresh’ when pairing, D) make sure the zigbee network is ‘idle’ (developer tools/zigbee), E) make sure HP2023 and the zigbee network is not too busy, F) make sure HP2023 is well powered.
    • It is important that you contact Homey support, as challenges are related to HP2023, your local environment and not smpl.
  • Updating:
    • Make sure you have the most recent smpl Homey app installed (v2.2.4)
      1. delete the device and make sure it is gone (developer tools/zigbee), 2) delete the smpl Homey app, 3) make a ‘factory reset’ of the display (if you have fw v1.19), 4) make sure your batteries are ‘fresh’, 5) reboot your HP2023, 6) install the most recent version of the smpl Homey app, 7) create a display layout, 8) pair your display again, 9) create a new flow to push data to your display
