Session not found error Homey app

The last 3 weeks I get the message “session not found” on average 4 times a week when I open the Homey app.

Does anyone have an idea what the cause could be? The internet connection at home is stable and the 5G connection is also stable.

When I come home the app works and all the flows work just fine when I’m away from home. But as soon as I’m away from home I have a hard time connecting to Homey via the Homey app.

You’re very lucky: 4 times a day is very usual here (pro 2019).

That’s quite a lot, is there no solution for that?

If I get the error no session found, the app will only work again when I’m home and not before.
If I’m away for a whole day, it still works via chrome. But it’s not very convenient.

Strange that it doesn’t work via the app and does via chrome.

I have now connected Homey to a single band 5Ghz instead of a combined wifi of 2.4 and 5 Ghz. Maybe it’s more stable then? I have the Homey pro 2023.

This is a bug of the 2016-2019 models, I was surprised the Pro 2023 can suffer from the same bug.
It seems to vanish almost completely when you use the ethernet dongle.

Yes, using a single band seems to limit the frequency of the error popping up, if 5GHz isn’t making much difference, try it with the 2.4GHz band.

No clue why the web app isn’t affected as much as the phone app.
I’d suggest to logout the phone app, remove it, reboot your phone, and install the app again.
This is the easiest way to get rid of cached data, which can be a PITA sometimes.
Clearing it is sometimes necessary.

Then I have to look for an ethernet dongle. The disadvantage is that I have to pull an ethernet cable through the living room.

I deleted the app 2 weeks ago, doing that every few weeks is very annoying.

I have now connected it to the 5ghz and will see in the coming days whether it remains stable.

So this is a known problem with the Homey app?

FWIW I’m running Homey Pro 2023 with POE and have never experienced this

Maybe i will buy a POE dongle, the 5Ghz single band also doesnt work. Today i cant acces the Homey app.
Its getting very anoying.

First try it using the 2.4GHz single band I’d like to suggest.
And when your wifi system uses A.P.'s, make sure Homey is forced to use only one AP, to prevent it from hopping.

@Peter_Kawa
Just connected it to a 2,4 GHz only, hope this works.

Do you mean this with a AP? :

Just went to do some groceries and i took al look in the app when i was in the supermarket. And the app couldnt find a session.

Are you certain the poe adapter will solve this?

Just deleted the app and reinstalled it but when i login, this new error appear:

No, AP = Access Points, sorry. Devices which can extend the wifi range. KPN calls them superwifi or something like it.

No.
I only can tell several users posted their experences here, the offline issues were reduced to almost none with the ethernet adapter.
I can’t tell if that is to be expected in general.

Oh okay, i only have a kpn router that is 1 meter away from the Homey Pro.

I dont know what to do. The app works at home perfect, but when i am away from home it cant find a session.

I tried it on different phones and tablets and they al cant find a session when away from home.
And if i open the chrome app on my phone than i can control the devices, very weird.

Just a thought. I noticed in your screenshot that your router has the option/a section for IPv6. Given connection problems some other users had on their local network with IPv6 enabled, I am wondering whether this might also play a role in external incoming connections. Not sure if you have enabled IPv6 and have the option to check what the effect is when turning it off (and using IPv4).

@sunGood thought! I checked, but IPV6 was allready switcht off.

I checkt the settings in the homey app and i noticed that port forwarding was switcht off. So i forwarded the port and the static IP adress already was setup.

Could this be the problem?

Normally you would not need port forwarding, as Athom implemented a mechanism to access your Homey externally via its cloud. It looks like that route is not working for you.

Do you perhaps have some (firewall) blocking settings on your router that may prevent incoming connections from the Homey cloud? Unfortunately I have no hands-on experience with KPN routers, so have no specific guidance on which settings to check .

Should you want to try whether the route via port forwarding works, then you also need to forward the respective port in your router to your Homey (which then needs to have a fixed / reserved IP address). Check this article for more info: https://support.homey.app/hc/en-us/articles/16397583238556-Enabling-Port-Forwarding.

Also, did you try to:

  • Remove power from your Homey for 15 mins and then power it on again?
  • Restart your phone?

I think you have found the problem!
The firewall was with a router update changed from ‘‘standard’’ to ‘‘middle’’.

I changed it back to standard and it looks to solve the problem.
Hopefully it stays like this, will test it the next couple of days :crossed_fingers:
