1 did anyone try this? It looks promising (I like the concept of using a shortcut by waterdroppels…)
2 I don’t think if it would connect to homey via the Tuya cloud or zigbee app (it’s not listed), does zigbee standard support devices like this? Probably not?
It looks nice, but my experience with these types of bare-copper rain sensors is that eventually (often within a couple of months) they will corrode and stop working properly. Plus that a lot of cheap solar-based devices often use cheap epoxy that starts cracking due to thermal expansion/contraction which will lead to water ingress.
And no, Homey will not support this out of the box.
I bought this rain sensor recently. I works really well in the Smart Life app, but it’s not supported in Homey (yet). If you add it as Zigbee device, it shows up as unsupported and you can’t use its features. And the Tuya Cloud app does not recognize rain sensors, so that won’t work either. Such a shame…
Thanks for sharing your experiences with this device. Based on this thread and the relatively low cost, I’ve decided to get one myself as well. Using the test version of the Tuya Zigbee app I was able to connect it without the need of a Tuya ZigBee Gateway.
Based on some quick tests I found it detecting water really fast, but just like @J273 mine triggers in the morning from dew as well, but for my use-case that is no problem at all.
My goal is to use it as a corrective mechanism to control the smart garden awning when rain is detected, together with different Netatmo modules. The latter unfortunately isn’t able to trigger upon the first rain drops. As a preventive mechanism I’m already using the forecast from the Dutch KNMI weather app.
