No Wi-fi near my meter, but I do have ethernet

I have no Wi-fi near my meter, but I do have ethernet there. Would I be able to use a Homey USB-C Ethernet adapter on the Homey Engergy Dongle instead of wi-fi?

I’m fairly sure that’s a no, the USB port on the new dongle will very likely support just a USB-to-serial interface.

Maybe not even that as the main purpose of the USB interface is to power the dongle when connected to meters that aren’t able to supply enough current for the dongle.

On a Dutch tech forum it was said that you can read the telegram data from the meter off the USB port, and even flash alternative firmware to it.

This P1 dongle has an Ethernet connector

(And looks like the example for Homey P1 :face_with_hand_over_mouth: )

Works with https://homey.app/en-nl/app/nl.inversion.esphome/ESPhome/

I also would prefer ethernet instead of WIFI.

Wonder why this isn’t an option, since probably a lot energymeters are in the same place as the router of the ISP.

And any news if delivery still stands for March?

I guess it’s best to ask in the ā€˜central’ topic:
