New update 12.10.1

There is a new update, but it seems not possible to update from the homey app? it redirects to KB for instructions, and there i cannot find them. worst case is to backup first (somehow) , download new vm, restore backup, quite some work and restore risks

I understand these images like proxmox and docker get latest version upon reboot/restart of the container.

Example for Synology with Docker:

i use the vmware shs variant. there is no auto update, no backup.

note that there are basically 2 variants

-docker, where a device or platform hosts docker an there you update the docker. homey files

-vm, run by hypervisor like vmware where you install a complete virtual environment containing linux os, docker, homey files

so i have to dig into the vm its docker component (no idea how to) to replace something there

i did a reboot, but no update installed.

before i pay 125 for the shs, the update and backup process must be clear and easy,

But that’s not a matter for Athom, but for you.

It depends on yor VM/Docker environment. You have to care about.

not entirely true, i do backups, snaphots the complete vm , and i can easily restore that.

a backup includes os,docker, homey config.

if i want to restore a new homey release, then i cannot do it this way, then i have to restore the complete new empty vm with new release (like this update) from the download page, but that is without my homey config.

maybe homey can issue instructions how to backup from inside the vm, until then, i do not continue with shs migration

Well, you can also just use a Container. Then you can link a local share for your data. This way you can backup/restore the data only and you can update the Homes SHS by pulling the :latest version again.
On a QNAP this works without issues.

I haven’t tried the VM version. That’s why I assumed the container is also runing inside VM with a local data share. But yes, then you have to backup inside VM to network share (just a guess).

So the VM contains Debian (with a Docker installation I assume) and will auto updated with every restart.

Import the Virtual Machine
We’ve already set up a Debian virtual machine, pre-configured to automatically download the latest version of Homey Self-Hosted Server on every boot.

this is the trick!, i just reboot the vm from the hypervisor (shutdown/ start) and now the new release is active. ( before i did reboot homey from inside the app and that did not work.)

i make backups snapshots of the vm using the hypervisor.

thanks a lot!, now continuing migration from cloud to shs , lots of flows an devices….
