I bought a Kwikset Halo Select connect for the sole purpose of connecting it to Homey Pro via Matter over Thread. Unfortunately, per the attached screen shot, it appears this device is not certified for Matter? Does this appear to be an issue with Homey Pro or Kwikset? and / or can any other advice be provided to be able to connect this lock to Homey Pro?
I put in a support ticket with both Athom and Kwikset; I guess we’ll see what they say. My guess is that the lock is using Matter (1.3 perhaps) and Homey is only on 1.2. Idk just a thought.
Athom will say that it’s an issue with Kwikset because they need to certify their devices, but it’s happened before that devices that were certified were still rejected by Homey as being uncertified (looking here, the Halo Select seems to be certified recently, but Homey should download certification information periodically to keep its database up-to-date).
Also, Homey is about the only Matter controller that strictly rejects devices that aren’t certified.
update: I was able to add the lock to Homey Pro without any issues. Guess Homey updated their database of certified matter devices, however I now I have no way of managing codes. Homey Pro has no ability that I can see and when you convert this lock to use Matter (as opposed to wifi) in the Kwickset app, where you used to be able manage door lock codes is simply not there anymore. The worst part is the only way you can control this lock now is through Homey; you can’t even use the existing codes when it was on wifi. Bad design if you ask me. I have an Aqura U300 that uses Matter, but you can at least modify lock codes with their app via a bluetooth connection. I am frustrated to say the least.
The functionality of Kwikset locks via Matter is currently somewhat limited, primarily because Matter itself lacks certain advanced features, such as code management. However, we are collaborating with Kwikset to add support for their Halo WiFi locks through their official APIs, which we hope will address these limitations.
Regarding certification issues, we’ve noticed that some brands, for reasons unclear, use a different certification database than the standard provided by the CSA. We’ve observed a similar situation with Fritzbox.
Understood. Integration with this lock through it’s wifi functionally would be the best of both worlds; access though Homey for automation and through Kwikset for user management.
If anything I’m just frustrated that “converting” this lock to use Matter essentially cripples local control of the lock via bluetooth the native Kwickset app, but really even worse, physical control via the keypad. Seems like a bug if you ask me. I have reached out to Kwikset support for their stance on this matter (no pun intended).
The only lock I’ve encountered that uses these features is the Yale Assure SL. However, managing PIN codes for this lock isn’t supported via Matter—you can only unlock it using a PIN.
