@Doekse I watched the podcast, and you guys really want to know what Iâm going to do with it. So, I ordered two. One of them is going in the bedroom. The idea is to replace the entire collection of buttons from, among others, Philips Hue, Wake-up light, Duux fan, and Denon Heos with the Portal.
So what Iâm still missing now is the alarm clock function via the Portal.
Indeed, a screensaver with an analog clock. (You have a round screen, so itâs ideal for recreating an old HEMA alarm clock dial.)
Then, next, for the double touch function. Turn off the alarm. (I really love my Wake-up light birds, so please put those in there.) And also set the user to awake in Homey at the same time. Additionally, of course, make it available for use in flows.
Screen brightness (adjustable) low when sleeping.
Adjustable presence sensor sensitivity. So that the screen doesnât light up constantly when you turn over in bed. (The Portal will obviously go on the nightstand.)
Are these the outer dimensions including the metal ring or the display only without the black border and ring?
I asked this from Homey support, an they said it doesnât support ethernet over USB. At least not currently.
I wonder if it is possible to add shortcuts to different zones? So that you could jump between zones from one portal and have the same âdefaultâ-view(Lights, weather, speakers⌠etc.) appearing for those zones in the same portal?
Ngl everyone who calls this âfairly pricedâ either has some serious brainwashing going on or just way too much money to throw around.

May-be iâm âold grumpy guyâ but for me one of home automation basis is that all must stay working even, if something happens with my homeâs âbrainâ.
I do not want to sleep, lights directed into my eyes just because Homey burns off yesterday. So, in the wall box some smart relay may be - but the physical switch must be.
Also⌠the possibility to just unplug Homey(or what ever âbrainâ) which one got hacked - and continue with âdumbâ, but responsivle, home is a ânice to haveâ backup plan.
Yes, I also think that there shouldnât be one way to control devices. I also have a backup, if Homey is offline, I can always use the manufacturerâs mobile apps to control all of my devices. These work independently of Homey, it just takes a bit more time to open the app for each brand and control the devices instead of just the Homey app.

Really enjoyed hearing about the sound effects and weather functions and the work that went into it.Itâs making more sense as to why this costs what it does and I can fully appreciate why youâre all so proud of how it turned out.
However, in light of the community feedback on pricing, I hope Athom would consider bringing a slimed down âminiâ version to market in the future, without so many bells and whistles.
Maybe a strictly wall mount version with an internal relay that could compete with an NS Panel pro or similar products with more limited functionality aimed at just one room.
Itâs mostly the heavily inflated RAM & Flash prices that decide the final price that we can sell Homey Portal for.
Is a nice product for sure, but im personally missing âspecialâ things like PoE or IP65 to give it an edge over cheaper solutions.
I could see a lot of potential for having this in a bathroom instead of a tablet.
But I will order it anyway, im way too curious

No doubt it wasnât easy balancing the price sheet.
Now, letâs talk about the Homey Portal Mini, Live and Pro 
Mini : basic square screen, not rotary control, direct power (1:1 replace wall switch in europe) or PoE. Thatâs the one you have in every room.
Live : The same Portal you currently have with a battery pack & magnetic Qi2 charge (or a backpack for the current one (not just a snap one as it would be too bulky). Thatâs the one you want in âbig roomsâ where you want control from couch, chair, bed, not having to move to your walls. OR go beyond and be the new Logitech Harmony (yes there are alternatives, but why not ?)
Pro : go crazy like 9 to 24 inch display, thatâs the true center of your home, you probably only want 1 of those, with full room & full house dashboard and such. The one you use to check everything before you leave, turning on the alarm and such + additionnal features like family calendar, notesâŚ

Yes, Iâm using one, just for testing purposes at the moment, not permanently installed yet.
And yes, Iâve heard about it and read about it. It seems to almost always come up in connection with knock off products that are suspiciously cheap compared to what they should be. Is there a risk whenever you donât buy a branded Android device? Sure. Am I always going to be paranoid about it and only buy overpriced, branded devices? No.
Even if I were overly concerned about malware and decided to stick exclusively to brand name products, this Portal is still ridiculously overpriced for what it offers.
I wonder what volume was allocated to preorders. As they say, the devil is in the details.
If youâre willing to do a bit of âworkâ, you can get a Sonoff Panel Pro, square or vertical, for around âŹ80. Install Home Assistant on a mini PC, old laptop, or whatever you have lying around, import your Homey devices, and unleash the power of proper dashboards, controls and sensors.
Thatâs the tablet you already have.
Thatâs that other bigger tablet you already have.
The main reason theyâll never make any of the things you mentioned is that theyâd probably sell two, maybe three. The pricing would be outrageous.
Thatâs an interesting question indeed. I am pretty sure Athom will not be sharing such details though.
