As much as I would love Honey to succeed, with a (regular) price of 299 euro, this thing is dead in the water. Let’s not forget, your smartphone is the perfect portal without incremental costs
Cheap Android TV boxes (T95 for example) also use these chips. But they earn their money back with factory-installed malware.
Saw the video and was like “perfect, one or two per room?”
Saw the price, “forgot the whole video content”
Half the price and add homey bridge functionality to it and it gets interesting…
@Doekse can you explain the pricings? Looks like I am not the only one who finds it too expensive..
I love your ecosystem and design philosophy, even made apps for it, but you’ve miss the mark on this one for me (again FOR ME, I don’t make it an absolute truth, but mine).
Such a remote with a fixed location design should be less expansive OR it should be flexible with Qi charge/magnetic bases and battery to start.
Overall the “on the kitchen counter” case it the perfect “should be movable” example, I don’t want a 250€ touch screen device near oil, fire, smokes etc… (and honestly I want “touchless” in my kitchen).
Rotary is nice, but it’s overkill and over designed when you have a touch screen (if it’s reactive). I love it as a designer, I don’t as a paying customer.
At that price it should be almost a home hub but it’s too small for that, so I’ll keep my cheep android tablet to do it (until a certain fruit company propose something…)
You can really see and feel LG‘s pressure on them to create revenue. Forget about investing in silly stuff like making existing products better or even work properly! Create new sources of money instead.

I’m not saying the price is not legit, I’ve saying it miss the point at that price. (or the point shouldn’t be at that price).
Maybe if it was a tablet sized screen I maybe buyed it. But for its size and features its too expensive

i cant see their internals. But a price of 299 is still crazy for this thing i am not saying, that the product is bad. but Athoms pricing in general is.
With all due respect to your arguments and cost breakdowns, €250 for a better remote control is ridiculous. Anyone who wants something like that can run Home Assistant on a Shelly Wall Display and get a similar device for 30 per cent of the price.
I can’t imagine this device will be a success. When I saw the price, I even stopped watching the presentation because I’d lost interest in the rest of it.
How are you going to interface with Homey Cloud and Homey Pro natively then?
The Homey Portal interface looks fantastic, but the device itself is far too expensive—especially if it is intended to be placed in every room.
It would be brilliant if the same interface were also available as a full-screen mode for phones and tablets. Most importantly, it would be perfect for the Apple Watch, with the Digital Crown working just like the Portal’s rotary ring.
I’ve ordered one because It looks like a nice device and I like to support Athom and help growing the platform, addons and the community.
But as a lot others I have to admit it is really expensive. I cannot imagine one is using and buying this as intended. 3 rooms will set you back €900 considering the average user can’t afford to buy them all at once.
€150 max €200 should be the price.
Not at all. I connect the Homey devices to Home Assistant and create dashboards there, which I display on the wall-mounted screen. That’s perfectly sufficient for me and also controls all the relevant devices, such as lights and thermostats.
@Doekse could you use it to send text-to-speech to via flows to let it talk?
How? How can you interface with Homey Cloud? A reverse engineered API?
