I bought a few IKEA Matter over Thread devices to test them. Everything worked perfectly until I tried to pair the dual button that comes bundled with one of the bulbs.
I had already seen several YouTube videos where people couldn’t pair that bundled button, while the ones sold separately worked fine. So maybe it was just my case — or maybe IKEA has fixed it in newer packages with a firmware update.
In my case, I was actually able to pair the button successfully, but it never appeared in the device list in Apple Home. Some time later, all my Matter over Thread devices became unreachable.
When I inspected the Thread network using the Eve app, I noticed that the button was shown in the network as a generic “Matter device” instead of as a button like my other one. I removed it, but the Thread network was already in a bad state and didn’t recover.
In the end I had to delete and re-pair every single Matter device.
So you may simply be unable to pair that bundled button — or it might work but break things later, as it did for me. I just wanted to share my experience and warn about a potential risk.
