PLEASE HELP ME
I recieved my Homey pro 2026, and i just dont know how to start out. I have a lot of devices already, all registered in the same cloud based SmartLife app. The main reason for my Homey selection is that I want it all to be locally managed - i’m tired of missing internet connection and not being able to control my devices.
So how do i do this, i am a bit confused?
If i let Homey detect everything in my Smartlife app, will everything then still be cloudbased or will zigbee devices etc suddenly turn locally managed?
Should I delete several devices in SmartLife app and start over in Homey?
What would you do?
I have 23 tuya BLE led spotlights i the ceiling managed via Tuya BLE gateway
I have 12 Ikea smart bulbs managed in a Tuya Zigbee/BLE multifunction gateway
I have 5 Zigbee Moes Tuya Scene swiches for managing all lights in different rooms, managed in the Tuya Zigbee/BLE multifunction gateway
I have a TTlock BLE smart doorlock managed in TTlock app and a BLE G2 gateway
I have a Tuya wifi based garage opener
Everything using the Tuya gateways will be linked via the cloud. All ZigBee devices connected directly to Homey will be linked locally.
Ok, so what you are telling me is, removing all but tuya ceiling BLE led spots, because they cant be connected in any other way but tuya BLE gateway?
So the best soulution as i understand it, is to remove all what can from Smartlife app and re-discover in Homey?
No, that’s not the best solution. But if you want everything local, you’ll need to link them to Homey directly via ZigBee. I would recommend to continue using your Tuya gateways, because you only get firmware updates for your devices with the Tuya gateway. Only Tuya ZigBee devices can be linked to Homey directly.
It is because i have these noname Tuya ceiling led spotlights, it says “Smart Bluetooth Light” on the box, and i thought that the new Homey 2026 with bluetooth antenna was able to manage these locally - but you are saying this is not the case??
No, there’s no option to control Tuya Bluetooth devices directly with Homey. Besides that, Homey’s Bluetooth range isn’t very big either.
But why do you want to use your devices without the Tuya gateway?
It’s not because i dont want to use the gateway, it’s because i wanted everything to work locally - even without internet/no cloud…
That’s not possible with Tuya devices, they always use the cloud to communicate.

Damn, I didn’t know that - I’m done with tuya then…
Although Sven explained better earlier, this statement here is too generic:
Local only is not possible for Tuya wifi & Ble devices, and for Tuya zigbee devices connected to a Tuya hub/bridge (which ‘converts’ them to Tuya wifi devices for Homey).
Tuya zigbee devices paired directly to Homey don’t need / use the cloud in any way.
BUT because Tuya make up their own rules, almost each and every Tuya zigbee device out there needs to be supported by one of the Tuya Zigbee apps.
Never assume things with Homey!
- Rule of thumb: For any device to be used, it needs an app which supports it
- When a brand is mentioned in the app store, it doesn’t mean any smart device of that brand will just work →
-
- Check the app store app pages for the listings of supported devices
Except for:
- Certain zigbee & z-wave lights and switches (when lucky).
- Certain Matter devices (when lucky).
