Tuya for beginners

Hi all,
I see a lot of contradicting information about Tuya support, so I am getting a bit confused.

I’ve been told Homey supports Tuya without needing the internet. I live in an area where we have internet sometyimes but internet fails just as often. So for me any smarthome support must run without cloud connections or something.

  1. How do I do about when adding (Tuya) zigbee devices? Is the “Tuya Zigbee” app the right one? If yes, how do I add devices? Should I conne ct them through Smartlife first, or can it be done straight from Homey?

  2. I see a supported devices list with all kinds of hex numbers and device name numbers. However, I don’t see any of such numbers in the Lazada app. How do I know whether or not a certain doow/window sensor is compatible?

Thnkas in advance for helpful answers.

PS: Before people direct me to use search, I did and couldn’t find the answers.

It depends on the type of device: Zigbee devices don’t need the internet, WiFi devices do.

You may have to consider that Homey itself requires cloud access. Not all the time, but Murphy’s law dictates that it will require access when your internet connection is down.

In that situation, Homey itself will still be running your flows, but you won’t be able to access/control it.

For Zigbee devices you need the Tuya Zigbee app. The instructions on how to use it should be self-explanatory (but you won’t need to add them to Smartlife first).

For WiFi devices, there are two apps, one “official” and one made by a community member. The official app doesn’t work at the moment. Since both apps rely on the Tuya cloud services, you first need to add your devices to the Smartlife app to make them available on Homey.

Only by trying, I’m afraid. Homey only has very limited generic Zigbee support so it needs explicit app support for most devices (the exception being lights and sockets/plugs). If the app doesn’t support the device, you can’t use it with Homey.
