How to add my Tado X thermostat in Homey Pro

Hi,

I’m trying to add my smart thermostat on Homey Pro, that’s a Tado X. It asks me to put Tado in “pairing mode” and I absolutely didn’t find how to do it. Also I’ve gone into the Tado app (where my thermostat is correctly configured), tried to do the Matter option but it never gives me a new code: it undefinitely waits with the wheel or it asks me to choose an app to integrate with, and Homey doesn’t appear in the list, just Alexa, Home, Samsung SmartThings and Switchbot. What am I doing wrong? Thank you in advance.

EDIT: I’ve already read other Tado X topics here, nothing helped me.

You need to install the Tado app:

And then you need to log in with your Tado app account. The thermostat must be linked to the tado Internetbridge

Thank you for your answer, it didn’t help me but I realized something that clarified the situation for me, so I tell about it here, maybe it will help someone else.

If you add a device in a system using Matter, then it will be removed from other systems, if configured before. In my case, I found out that “pairing mode” for my Tado X is pushing all the 3 buttons together: it resets the device and make it findable using Matter. I did it with Google Home and everything worked fine. But when I proceed to do the same on Homey Pro, going again in pairing mode deleted the previous Google Home association. If I try to re-add the device in Google Home, it would erase the Homey Pro association and so on. From what I’ve saw and read, Matter association works in one system only at the same time.

I’ve also tried to enable the Matter association mode on the Tado app, but it make me choose from Home, Alexa, SmartThings and Switchbot, and Homey Pro doesn’t appear in the icon list. Also, if I choose one of them, it still erases previous associations. In the end I just set up the Tado X in Homey Pro and gave up with Google Home.

Are you using a tado Bridge as your Thread Border Router? I got in touch with tado° last week because pairing the tado° X devices across multiple platforms, especially when using a Thread Border Router other than their own,
can get a bit messy.

Let me know and I’ll have a look if I have the answer

Hi, yes I’ve got a Tado Bridge. I don’t know exactly what is its part in the process, I can only say the Bridge is on and operating and I just follow the procedure.

Okay thanks! Essentially if you have a Homey Pro (Early 2023) or Homey Pro mini you can also use them as your Thread Border Router. Using the following method you can use the tado° X products in both the tado° and Homey apps;

  1. Factory-reset the tado X device.

  2. Open the tado° app and begin setup by scanning the device’s QR code.

  3. When the app displays a warning that no tado° X Bridge is present, tap “Skip.”

  4. The app will then show an error message:
“Something went wrong. Your Smart Thermostat couldn’t connect.”

The only available action is “Try again”, which simply returns to the same error screen.

  1. Instead of tapping “Try again,” tap the X in the top-right corner.

After closing the screen, the device is connected to your tado app.

  1. At this point, attempting to connect the tado device to Homey will not work:

The “Link Matter device” option is greyed out, showing: “Matter device linking is currently unavailable.”

  1. Power-cycle the device (cut the power and restart it).

After rebooting, the device automatically re-enters Matter pairing mode, without needing any action in the tado app.

  1. Now you can add the device to Homey normally, and pairing succeeds without issues.

  2. Once added, the device will function correctly in both Homey and the tado° app.

Afterwards you can also share the tado X devices with other platforms like Google Home through either the Homey or tado° app

Hi,

I already use my Tado X both in Tado app and in Homey app. Conflict is between Homey and Google Home, for example, or with something else like Alexa (I gave up with it too ‘cause I really don’t need vocal orders to manage Tado X).

Essentially I’ve followed the procedure you described and now I use Tado app for more specific functions (AI, scheduling, …) and Homey app for flowing with other devices.

Only thing I still have doubts is your last sentence. In my experience, every attempt to share Tado X with other systems resulted in a request of putting it in pairing mode, which erases previous integrations as I’ve said.

To pair with Google, you can either pair using tado directly or via Homey. In my Google Home, I pair them via Homey

First, you need to add a device in Google Home. There, you choose “Link apps and services” and there you can link Homey. If you want to link via tado directly, you would click Tado instead

The “Works with Google” option made the trick, thank you!

Only one thing: if you integrate several apps in which the same device is already setup, it will create duplicates in Google Home, and you cannot remove a single instance of the device if it comes from an integration but only the entire integration, that will cause the removing of all of the devices coming from that integration. I solved by creating a “ghost” room in Google Home named “Z-duplicates” in which I put duplicates.

That was an issue for me as well. I just removed all integrations except for Homey and Chipolo. The other devices already work via Homey
