How I wall-mounted my iPad Pro

@Emile Why I don’t see the " *Activity Notifications" option. There are on in Home settings ??

I have the same problem. I can’t activate notifications for the motion sensors in Homekit, although the Home app is allowed to send notifications.
Alternatively, you could send Homey a push message as soon as motion is detected. This would also eliminate the need for Homekit. I haven’t tested this yet, but it should work. Ideally, the dashboard would then have its own Homey user.

A community dashboard has another solution to activate the screen when motion is detected. I wrote this article about it:

With this variant you would not need guided access, other apps could then also be used on the iPad without any problems. Unfortunately, this function is not available in the Homey Dashboard.

@Emile is there also an option like example a button is pressed turn on iPad screen

I have a night Switch in Homey what’s on my dash
In night mode I want to turn the screen off en day mode screen on

And about powering It doesn’t hurt to leave the iPad on power all the time

This is working, have this in my hallway working with a motion Sensor and a separate Dashboard user.

@Mark1541 this would also work for you, just start the flow at a button press instead of a motion sensor.

Can you share an example then ?

I’ve add devices to my HomeKit but I can’t see buttons only lights

And how can I make a flow then for example button press turn off screeen and press to turn on

Pretty Straight forward:

Just swap the motion sensor with your button.

Just made a new User and invited it to my Homey, put them on “away” to not disturb any presence flows.
For the iPad settings, I just copied Emiles’ Guided assistance settings. I like my iPad screen off when no one is using it, so I don’t have any idea how to turn it off. I like that it’s fired up automatically when I’m moving towards the Pad and turns off after 5 min of inactivity.

Let me share my idea for budget-friendly tablet wall mounting without the need for drilling holes.

As an iPhone user, I have several MagSafe rings (sourced from our friends in China) around the house. These rings come with a metal attachment for devices that don’t have MagSafe compatibility. They are incredibly strong and very thin.

The only potential downside I can think of is strongly pressing on the screen edges, but that would require some testing to confirm.

This is how it looks. And one cost approximately €1.

Hi Emile
Do you have an solutions to controll IPad with out Home Kit

Works very well

I don’t have Home Kit installed on my iPad.
Will it work?

Yes, the screen activates after getting the push notification from the homey app.

Thanks for all your help.
But I can’t get it to work
I have a Push Button in Homey that starts a Notification with Me as the recipient (I am the owner of Homey).

In Emile
example, he has added Home Kit to the iPad Notification settings.
Should I add Homey here instead?

I have configured Guided access After 5 minutes the iPad turns off

My Flow starts in Homey. But does not activate the iPad.

I would be grateful for any help as I want this to work.

Hi JayR
I got it working now.
Thanks for your Support.

But is there any solution to only a specific Notification activating the iPad?

as it works now the iPad is activated by all Notifications

Yep, put the iPad in a focus mode and allow only notifications from the Homey App.

Thanks, it works now

I’ve had a go at this myself and its turned out pretty good, here are the results!

Used the same setup as @Emile (except sourced in the UK):

Some key tips:

  • DO NOT peel off the surface to get the screws - After seeing Emile find the screws once brute forcing the arm off, I decided to peel off the surface to get at them. This was a terrible idea as the tiny powerful magnets are held in place by it and all came out (see image below). Even though I managed to (eventually) get them all back in the right place, the surface didn’t re-adhere well enough. This meant that when snapping the iPad on the magnets would pull the surface slightly away and not hold it securely against the power contacts.

  • I recommend you cut through using a crafting knife/scalpel. The centre is 90mm from top & 122mm from left. The full diameter of the circle is 36mm, I cut something slightly smaller than this so I could neaten up at the end. Underneath the surface there is another bit of black plastic covering the 2 screws you can see in Emile’s photo, this should peel/cut off. Once they are removed you can easily get the arm off and then cut the bigger circular opening by cutting along the groove underneath.

  • Be careful not to drill through the places where the magnets are, see image below for placement reference (i.e. the empty holes).

Destroyed stand for reference:

Hope this helps anyone else having a go at this!

I can confirm removing the membrane will make you have to put all the magnets back in place, I’m currently in the process of doing that with glue.:see_no_evil:

Another thing to note, the usb part on the back is quite big, ~6,8cm out of the top of my head. For me it didn’t fit inside a single electrical box in the wall so I ended up making a wood frame. So not a flush mount anymore.

For the electrical part make sure you don’t exceed 5v/3a the dock won’t work if you do.

This is my WIP

This might be an obvious thing but I stupidly didn’t think about it the first time I attempted to put all the magnets back in place and just shoved them back in any order.

Make sure each magnet is facing the correct polarity to what’s in the back of the iPad. They also alternate so they are not all N or S facing.

Good luck!

Yes I found out the hard way, immediately did it wrong with the bottom rectangle ones. Had to use acetone to undo the glue and correct the mistake.

Thanks for the heads-up!

I tried to redo the magnets with super glue, almost all went right but I think I made a mistake with one cluster. It still holds the ipad but the left sags slightly making me anxious so I’ve ordered a new one unfortunately. I will also use my first as a drilling guide :smiling_face_with_tear:
