Homey widgets don't work anymore

After the latest Homey update to V 9.9.0 on my Android phone the widgets don’t work anymore. Somebody have an idea??

Which widgets? Only the community widgets, or also the official widgets?

@Rein_Blaauw In case you mean these Homey/Athom widgets we can add to the phone screen:

Still works fine here, Android app v9.9.0.1954.
Possible fix: force quit the app, empty cache and restart phone.

Peter,

thanks for your reply, and it is this application

I only use the widgets for starting a Flow.

I delete the cache, uninstalled the Homey app, stopped the phone, waited 10 minutes, re-installed the Homey app with the same result. App connects to the favorite flows, but by starting a red X appeared.

What can I do more?

No problem, Rein.

So, that didn’t help

  1. is it still possible to add a new simple flow, marked as favorite, to the phone screen?
  2. if so, does it respond with a red cross as well?
  3. if so, does any other widget work? Like Moods or the multi-flow widget?
  4. if not, do you encounter regular “Homey appears to be offline” errors when opening the Homey app?

If no widget works,
I can only think of network related issues;

  1. does it help when you disable the phone’s wifi radio and enable mobile data?

If not,

  1. do you use any non standard network settings/tools?
Like vLANs, firewalls, Adguard, PiHole, custom DNS, (permanent) VPN and so forth.

Thanks.

Peter,

Thanks for all your suggestions.

When I have the time, this weekend, I am going to try them all, and of course I will let you know.

It was working without any problem before the update and that was the only thing that changed.

Keep you informed

Regards Rein

I have had this problem too in the past and also reported it to Athom a few times.

In my case: when my phone hasn’t got a connection (i.e. because it switches from mobile to wifi) the widget doesn’t work and a red X appears and never disappears. Only solution then is to remove the widget and add it again.

Athom didn’t do much about it unfortunately.

Henk,

Thanks for your reply.

I tried this but with the same result. a red cross Appeared

Regards Rein

Already contacted Athom then?

By the way; since all posts here are in English can this topic be transferred to the international/English part of the Community?

Henk,

That ias ok for me

Rein

Peter,

What I have done till now.

Checked the router for updates , last update was 3 month ago. After that nothing changed.

Restated the router. Deleted the Homey cache after each test.

All system in house are working fine.

I do not have vlan’s. A firewall in the router yes (On/Off no change) No vpn in the router

I added to Homey a new Shelly module, made simple flows with it , and made it favorite and tested it

All is working inside the Homey app, but not as a widget

Also insights is not working, comes with the notification “Kan insight gegevens niet op halen”

And moods is also doing nothing.

A "x"appeared

I have done all the tests with wifi on/off and/or 4G On/Off

Other widgets such as Sonos, Weer en Radar, Hikvison, Spotify etc, are working correct

So all by all it is not working after the latest up date for me, and not only on my phone.

Also on 4 or 5G I can controle all my Homey systems via the Homey app

I leave it this way for the moment.

I use the favorites in the Homey app and that is still working fine and leave the widgets for what it is now.

Regards

Rein

Have you turned the firewall back on? The firewall protects your network from intruders, by blocking access from external IPs to internal devices. If you turn it off, you are creating a security issue in your network because external IPs will be able to access internal devices. The firewall doesn’t cause any of these widget/Homey issues either, it only protects your network from WAN->LAN.

Thanks for your warning.

but all is set back to how it has to be.

Rein

OK, now we can only see what support comes with, Rein.

This is probably Android’s battery restrictions (doze mode). Try to exclude the Homey app from battery optimization.

Gerard,

Thanks for your reply.

The Homey app is excluded from battey restrictions.

But I swithed off Battery Savings for the whole phone to see if this would work.

I have this on as long I am using these phones.

But it helps, it is now working.

So thanks again

Regard

Rein

Issue solved by switching off Battery Savings for the whole phone.

Yeah the energy settings was one of the things I didn’t think of  Thanks @gerard_athom !

I just checked, this setting (‘optimized’) does not affect the Homey widgets functionality

BUT
with Android versions, and especially Samsung ones, things can be (very) different;
I’m on Android15 OneUI 7.0 (older S21+ phone)

I also had the app on “Optimized” on my Galaxy S24 FE and it didn’t have any issues. However, on other brands Android devices (specifically Xiaomi is known for heavily “optimizing” apps), it might require you to change the settings.
