Homey pro pre 2019, seems dead

I just bought a used Homey Pro pre-2019. The seller of course states that it worked when it was shipped in its original packaging, and I believe that. However, when I power it on, nothing happens, even after several hours with power; it seems completely dead. When the power is disconnected, there is a small click, which I assume is the speaker. I’ve tried turning it upside down, but it doesn’t do the countdown or activate the Homey network.

Does anyone have any good advice?

I’ve tried using several USB adapters and an old mini USB cable I found in a drawer, but still nothing happens.

You can try this, without waiting for Homey to blink or talk:

  • Make sure you’re logged in to the Homey app
  • Plug Homey in
  • Turn it upside-down after ~ 1 minute
  • After a minute, in the app, select “add new Homey” and follow instructions

I hope it didn’t die during shipment.

Thanks. I just tried it and it does not seem to reset and broadcast the Homey network. I just noticed that if I put my ear really close to it I can hear a low static noise.

Since it appears to be dead anyway, would it make sense to open it? Can it be opened without breaking it?

Oww, bummer!
Here’s very detailed “open it without destroying it” post:

Thanks for sharing that. Du you know if it makes sense to open it? Could anything have come loose during transport? Is that something that has been seen before?

I’ve no idea if there’s things you can fix yourself, except for detached antennas.
It’s better to ask in that modding topic I linked to.

When something rattles inside, one or more antennas have come off. That would be DYI repairable.

I can’t think of other things which can die during shipping.

That is the sound i heard when the adapter died on my Homey early 2018.

This is a quote from @Peter_Kawa from this topic

Hope this helps…

I have tried multiple chargerw, with same result.

i have returned it to the seller, thanks
