I see that we can have a shortcut on iOS trigger a homey flow, but I would like a Homey flow to trigger a shortcut through the app running the Homey app. Is that possible?
Here is what I am trying to accomplish:
I have various water leak sensors. If one of those sensors detects a leak, I would like to broadcast an announcement to my homepods.
With iOS 16, I can create a shortcut that would use the intercom feature to broadcast a message. I just need some way for the homey flow to tell my phone to kick off the shortcut.
I am aware of pushcut, but that requires a dedicated iOS device and a monthly subscription fee.
It would be nice if Homey could communicate with the Homey app already running on my iOS device to trigger the shortcut
The Homey app doesn’t support this.
A possible alternative is to create a HomeKit automation to do the broadcast (which you can then trigger using a virtual switch and HomeKitty on Homey: leak is detected and triggers a flow, the flow turns on the virtual switch, which in turn triggers the HomeKit automation), but I have no idea if broadcasting an announcement even works from HomeKit automations.
Another option would be to set up Home Assistant, which does support this out of the box, and use one of the HA apps to integrate with Homey.
It would be really nice if the Homey app did support getting a notification from the hub and kicking of a shortcut. Because I have found that Apple does not support a home based shortcut to use the intercom functionality. This means that there is no way in the homekit ecosystem to have an intercom broadcast based on a device state change. Hopefully Apple will add this in the future. It was only two versions ago that they allowed intercom from a personal shortcut from your phone.
I might look into setting up HA as a work around.
I did try the Homey Homekit experiment. That was an easy way to get the Homey devices into Homekit, but then Apple let me down.
I have lots of suggestions for the Homekit experiement, but it was good enough to get Homey devices into Homekit.
