I am struggling with Homey. Not sure what is going on hence the question here on the forum.
Example: I have KNX app on my Homey for many many years and mostly very reliable and immediate KNX system reaction to clicking a button. Recently it reacts with a delay, and after KNX stops responding at all. Need to restart KNX app, which is very inconvenient.
Other apps giving erratic problems are Slimladen, myVaillant and Modbus.
Solution could be to auto restart the Homey every day, but is it a good fix?
Could it be Homey auto updates that make the system less and less forgiving, pushing users to update their Homey? Sort of the Apple forced incompatibility lifecycle push? Other people experiencing similar problems, and if so a hypothesis of what is causing it and possible solutions?
See below. I am not sure how to read the processor load: I assume it is a % of max. If % than load is low.
From about 6:35 I see an increase in total load, but graph is meaningless per app. Not clear why load is increasing, or it is caused by looking at insights.
KNX is working, but has a small delay sometimes. So if there is a processor load issue what is causing it and why did it not happen eg 2 weeks ago. I did no major changes in flows or apps or so.
In Insights, you’d look at the RAM usage of all apps instead of CPU usage, that is the most critical part.
When any app uses over ~80MB’s of RAM, Homey’s wifi implementation just quits / freezes.
I’d contact the app developers of these apps (links can be found @ homey.app store).
Not every developer is focused on the pre 2023 models anymore (or even don’t own one), which can introduce little bugs / malfunctioning by accident after app updates.
Some do, can’t hurt, but it’s not a fix.
I almost never restart my 3 Homey’s, they only get restarted automatically after a firmware update
I cannot believe that would be the case.
Not all new functionality is available for the “white balls”, due to incompatibility and (of course imho) by “pushing users a bit to buy new models to get that new stuff”.
When you’re convinced a firmware update introduced bugs, just contact homey.app/support
Athom is still keeping Homey 2016 and up updated free of charge. That’s lasting 10 years now, which I consider a big plus these days.
I did an insights trend over this year and last year, and guess what? Look at below graphs.
At around jan 2026 I bought a Marstek home battery, and installed SlimLaden app. This is a very nice extensive app battery optimizer which provides its own HTTP dashboard within the app running in the Homey background.
It could be too heavy, and not cleaning up internal cache data or so. There is some memory creep, and also increased CPU load.
So I have no hard evidence, but the timing suggests this hypothesis. Restarting the app every day may be an option, but not sure if it clears cache memory. Will test this and see what happens. Could also be related to memory swapping or so?
