Google Nest Doorbell 2nd gen (wired)

Not available in the UK yet, but I have a Google Nest Doorbell 2nd gen wired. When in Homey, it doesn’t discover the device. Any ideas why this might be? I have added the device to Google Home without issue.

Thanks in advance,

After installing the Google Nest app I was able to add the device without issue. Did you install that app and authorized it?

Hi,

Thanks for your message. If I scan the QR code in the Nest App on my phone, it open Google Home, when I can see the doorbell no problem.

If by the Google Nest App you mean the one in Homey, the doorbell is not available in the app. I can see all of my other Google Nest devices. But not the new doorbell.

This issue is that the doorbell is not available in Homey to add as a device. :frowning:

No need to guess what app i meant, I linked directly to it.

I’m assuming you’re using “Add device” in Homey and selecting “Google Nest”, then “Doorbell” and then no new devices are found?

Is the doorbell brand new? And did you add Google Nest to homey before you added the doorbell to Google Home? If so, you just might have to wait a few hours or days. Google Home services are famously slow when they need to propagate changes in devices/configurations. That and other headaches drove me to Homey in the first place… :smiling_face_with_tear:

Thanks again for your response.

Yes, try to "Add device” in Homey and select “Google Nest”, then “Doorbell” and then no new devices are found.

The doorbell is brand new.

Google Nest has been running on Homey, supporting my existing 1st-gen doorbell with other devices for 12+ months. I added the doorbell to Google Home today, alongside my other Google devices.

I hear you on propagation. I’ve not had that as an issue before, but there is a first time for everything. Thanks again.

I just spent hours to troubleshoot something else in Homey (adding LG tv’s), and in the end it was simply solved by rebooting the LG-app inside of homey…

I’d also try that if you haven’t already. And/or reboot your entire homey for good measure

@gary.osullivan I also have that doorbell in the UK (wired gen 2) and it does work in homey through the Google home app, though tbh there’s not much you can do with it as Google have locked the API down.

There is a setting in the Google home app that you have to select to allow it to share the info with your homey.

In the Google home app on your phone (I’m on iPhone so your menu route may differ if you’re on android) go:

Settings > scroll down to the ‘services section’, and at the far right select ‘partner connection’ > homey > scroll to ‘select devices to see with homey’ and make sure your doorbell is selected.

After that, on homey if you search for new devices in the Google app then it should pick it up :+1:
