Im trying to upgrade an EVE plug to Matter. I tryed it multiple times and it always fails. Due to EVEs website it needs an active Thread-Network… but how do i activate this? I have no other Matter devices and cannot convert this one to matter…
Has Thread to be enabled on Homey pro somehow?
Looks like, Thread will only be enabled is at least one device is added, but i cannot add, because i cannot activate Matter without a Thread network. Is there an app to enable it?
Homey Pro (Early 2023) is already Thread border router but unable to do the Firmware updates.
Try it with fe a Google Hub v2 or or other supported Hub.
but due to what i found, its not active until a device is added. Here i have a chicken egg problem, because eve needs an already active thread network to activate matter on this device and homey cannot add it because its currently not activated and thread is not active

You can add Matter-Thread device just now to Homey nothing to activate. O have added fe an Evejust as first usingv Matter.
But only Thread devices that support Matter. So maybe Eve has an other option to update your devicees firmware.
Homey Pro can’t update the firmware now.
The Thread network is NOT active on Homey pro until a add at least one Matter device. My problem is, the EVE. plug is not jet active for matter, it can be activated, but needs an Thread network to do so. Since i have no single other Matter device i have no clue how to proceed. I did not want to throw this plug away, because its not broken, but i cannot add it to Homey until Matter is active, but i cannot activate Matter on that plug, because i have no Thread network.

Update the firmware somewhere else. Fe a Google Hub v2 or maybe Eve can do that using a Mobile App.

Which mobile app would provide a Thread network? You need a IEEE 802.15.4 module … Homey has one, but its off without a device and my Apple TV is too old (1st gen 4k version)
Buying a hub to save such a device is a waste of money…
Looks like i have to dump it to trash and buy a Shelly plug… i simply wanted to keep this plug, becaues its technically not broken, but Homey doenst support it when its not converted to Matter
If EVE. would have free return for orders on their shop i would have bought a new plug and then returend it after the conversion, but since i would have to pay the return, i ordered some new Shelly plugs and give up with this e waste from EVE.
AFAIK the upgrade of an Eve Smart Plug from HomeKit to Matter firmware is only possible in Apple Home. You need a HomePod Mini or Apple TV 4K with Thread to pair the Smart Plug. After that you can do the upgrade in the Eve App.

I connected my Eve motion to the EveHome app in parallel with Homey and received the OTA updates and they seem to work.
I don’t yet know whether this “trick” via EveHome also works with other products, but I have ordered a Wiz lamp to test it.
