CPU Load... what a load

Just for a laugh… no getting all serious on me, my headache couldn’t handle it ha ha

But get a load of this load… who else is making their Homey Pro work for a living? And don’t be giving me a hard time if you’re not prepared to share your own graphs :squinting_face_with_tongue::face_with_hand_over_mouth:

Averaging 40-50%, with peaks of 150+% (I did see it hit 197% once for a minute )_

I think a kind of process list showing a list of apps and their CPU load, with an entry for Homey divided in to system, flows, backup etc would be a nice to have. You have Memory and Storage, but not CPU load. And trying to create an Insights graph for all apps and the system is messy at best.

Mine does not use zigbee/thread (outsourced to H.A.) and no zwave devices:

I may end up resorting to such measures eventually… I have kinda been dreading going down the HA route (why I have Homey TBH) so my HP26 has everything thrown at it, Zigbee, Z-Wave, Thread, WiFi (Matter & straight WiFi devices) and even IR… just over 500 devices in total (inc 74 virtual)

As well as 74 apps, a growing number of scripts, 242 Flows, and a couple hundred variables. So I guess I shouldn’t be surprised it’s getting a good workout

This is mine. The spike yesterday was when Homey updated to firmware v13.5.3.

I have:

  • 143 devices (half are Zigbee)
  • 48 apps
  • 346 flows (mostly Advanced Flows)
  • 332 Logic variables and 23 BLL variables

Ah, let me show a bit more about what I’m doing to Homey 2026 v13.5.3

  • Memory: 4.03 GB (903.38 MB free)

  • 80 apps total — 53 Stable, 26 Test, 1 Development, 80 SDKv3, 0 updates available, 31 disabled, 0 crashed.

  • Total devices 285

    • Virtual devices 44
    • Other devices 240
  • Logic variables: 201

  • Better Logic variables: 21

  • Advanced flows: 124 total, 0 broken, 37 disabled

  • Basic flows: 424 total, 0 broken, 85 disabled

  • HomeyScript scripts: 244 (83 tokens/tags)

  • Zones: 55

As you probably have noticed, there’s 31 disabled apps here.
I have flows enable and disable certain apps which only need to run for a while to do a job. Like Archive Insights, Flow Checker, Flow Converter, and such.

(thanks to Homey Overview script )

I also use the Homey Overview Script, it’s a brilliant thing! And I use it in conjunction with the Email Sender app to send me an email overview at midday, which as well as being quite interesting, is most informative if I have any problems to look back on the last few days overviews.

It’s only a bit of fun, seeing how mean I’m being to my HP26  but it is interesting to see how everyone utilises their Homey. Thank you for sharing, you good sports :+1:t3:

i’m using a CM4108032

average 1min (7 days)

70 apps
188 advanced flows
25 normal ones

devices: 249 total / 26 virtual / 59 zwave / 28 zigbee

i am out of ideas what to automate

Storage: 2.66 GB (765.41 MB free)
Memory: 4.03 GB (513.31 MB free) this is a good day, I’ve had it down in the 200’s before

74 Apps (57 Stable, 17 Test, 0 Updateable, 7 Disabled)
30 Zones
135 Logic Variables (22 Boolean (Yes/No), 93 Number, 20 String (Text))
1 Standard Flow
242 Advanced Flows
6 HomeyScript scripts
2 Better Logic Variables

0 Updatable devices
47 Updated devices
0 Unavailable devices
74 Virtual devices
1 Infrared (database) devices
2 Group devices
2 Z-Wave devices
86 Zigbee devices (38 Router, 47 End device)
1 Homey Bridges
342 Other devices
508 Total devices

@Rick_D oh I automate the :poop: outta my house and life… being disabled, anything I can automate to make life a little easier, I find a way. I have found my imagination is the only real limit (well, sometimes cost too ha ha )

I finally plucked up the courage and took the plunge… that new CM4 had been sat there pulling faces at me for weeks. It was touch and go there for a while… performing major brain surgery on my Homey Pro (2026)… but, IT’S ALIVE!!!

Runs a darn sight better now it has free memory  (I haven’t installed any new apps yet… that’s just what it was running before, just using swap a lot ha ha )

The next job (another day now) is to back up the new hardware, and then expand the user partition, now I have 16GB to play with

No problem to expand the partition

Expecting that to be a lot easier… already have gparted on the Pi5 I’ll connect it to for the job anyway… it’s just the making my smart home dumb for an hour or so while I wait for the USB tool to do the backup first, and then wait for the partition to be expanded, before I can plug my Homey Pro back in to my network… that and I was visiting family over the weekend

Thanks for sharing :+1:t3:

EDIT: I have noticed since doing the upgrade, that the increased RAM has also had a positive impact on the CPU usage and temperature… perhaps because it’s not spending all its time smashing the swap, it can concentrate more on automating my home for me  (average load now 30% rather than 50%, peaks now around 80% instead of 130%… temps now in low 50’s rather than high 50’s °C)

Indeed, the same was for me even I have less than half of your setup…

Is there a guide on how to expand the partition? I did the upgrade a few years back but never bothered expanding the partition but im running out of storage now and ideally needs doing.

Can it be done on a mac?

Thanks

There is a basic guide in another forum post… which seems to suggest exactly what I was going to try. But I haven’t done it just yet (too busy creating new flows, scripts and exploring new apps now I have memory to play with ha ha ha). But I might have a go at it tomorrow… I’ll post here if I do… and include any additional points once I’m successful.

I was quite glad to see this, as I use a number of Raspberry Pi’s… and it was a Pi 5 I used for the upgrade to backup and restore, that already has GParted installed on it
