Buttons not responding or severe lagging - Newbie going out of my mind

Help a newbie out, i’m going out of my mind..

I’m new in the Homey eco system, and i have aquired a used Homey Pro 2023, and i’m experiencing issues with various buttons.
No matter what kind of flow i create, the buttons are all extremely slow in responding. Sometimes a button will turn on a e.g. a light bulb immediately, sometimes i need to press the button several times for the light bulb to turn on, and sometimes the light bulb does not turn on at all.

It seems the biggest issue is with the Aqara Wireless Mini Switch T1 and Philips Hue Tap Dial both which are Zigbee. When i use the IKEA Bilresa dual button remote (Matter), the response is almost sure to happen, but with a few seconds delay.

My Homey Pro 2023 is running on Channel 11 and my Ubiquiti Router is running 2.4Ghz WiFi (channel width 20) using channel 1, if this information matters.

I have currently have 23 Zigbee devices which should be no problem for the Homey Pro 2023 to handle - so what can the problem be ?

I see many transmit errors, and also some devices that generate a lot of messages, which all sounds like an unstable Zigbee network.

There are various guides on how to build a Zigbee network with Homey, but in the end, Homey’s hardware is extremely sensitive to interference from other 2.4Ghz sources like WiFi and also, Homey uses the same chip for both Thread and Zigbee, which is something that everyone else in the world has stopped doing because it’s never proved to be very stable.

Thank you for your input - i’ll check the mentioned guides and see what i can improve on.

It does matter. WiFi channel 1 overlaps with Zigbee channel 11. It is not unlikely that your WiFi is overpowering your Zigbee communication.

Channel 18 or above would be a better choice.

Changing the Zigbee channel on your Homey requires you to reset its Zigbee network. You then also need to repair all your Zigbee devices (via the maintenance option in the device tile’s settings).

Alternatively, if you have the option to change the WiFi channel to 6 or 11, then you would not have to reset your Zigbee network.

Should you reset your Zigbee network, then make sure to first repair the devices that are classified as ‘router’ (typically mains powered devices) in your screenshot in order to build the Zigbee mesh network. Then repair the end devices (typically battery powered). Ensure that there are router devices between your Homey and far away other devices.

I also see an ‘unknown’ device. Check if you can remove that one and re-pair it.

Finally, you’ll find several reports here on the forum of cases in which IKEA and Aqara devices not always play well together. That also might be a factor in your case.

Thank you for your great reply !!

I’ve moved my Philips Hue Hub Pro to Channel 20, and will move Homey Zigbee to channel 18 as suggested - fingers crossed, this should address my issue.

PS. How come Philips Hue Hub and Apple TV do not appear in the list of Zigbee routers, in the Homey overview ?

Thanks again !

AFAIK you can’t pick a channel manually. Also, channel 18 is not a great choice, as not all Zigbee devices will work properly when the channel is not one of 11, 15, 20 or 25.

The Hue hub is not part of your Homey Zigbee network, it maintains its own (completely separate) network. And AFAIK the ATV doesn’t support Zigbee at all.

I believe you are correct, you cannot pick a channel as you please - Homey picks it for you and circulates between defined channels.

My Philips Hue Hub runs on channel 20 and I’ve heard Apple like to use channel 25.

As Channel (Ch) 11 appears to be overlapping with my ch 1 - 2.4Ghz WiFi (thus maybe the reason for my problems), only ch 15 remains. Ch 15 also overlaps with WiFi ch 1 so would it be okay to pick ch 20 in my case ? (or should i go for ch 25 ) ?

Thank you again

Apple doesn’t support Zigbee, so I would aim for channel 25 for Homey.

Correct. The way it works is that you keep resetting the Zigbee network in Homey until is chooses the channel to your liking. My Homey Pro is on channel 25, while my 2.4 GHz WiFi is on channel 1.

OMG … what a job !

Zigbee now moved to ch 25 - i’m 90% done, and i can already tell things are better than before.

Thank you for you help and input !
