Backup plan did not auto renew?

Today I noticed that my backup plan from January 19th 2024 did not auto renew!? What the… when I subscribe such a service, i do not expect the necessity to take action every year! I expected it to simply renew via paypal… but now its gone and the backups are gone too

Who designed the process that way? And why?

Saving at least the last backup would be a nice feature.

I would myself at least appreciate some kind of notifications like “subscription expiring” - I guess you never get any such, right ? But indeed, contacting Athom support is the best thing to do now.

as far as I know ˵ Annual Backup Plan˶ does not auto renew.

I recently reached out to Athom support with some questions on their backup service. They indicated that they will send a notification when the annual subscription is about to expire, as it is not automatically renewed.

The latter is also included in their knowledge base, but you need to actively search for it:

Interesting that you did not receive such a notification .

I got one and bought for several years then .

Your Homey Pro Backups subscription is about to expire.

## Geurt, renew today.

Your Homey Pro Backups subscription is about to expire. When that happens, your Homey’s backups will be deleted.

You can simply buy another year of prepaid Homey Pro Backups, or switch to an auto-renewing subscription on iOS or Android.

and usual if Issues arise with backup I get notifications from Homey (like this)

akaik the email Alerts and Timeline notifications are on by default.

It"s not very clear, but I think this means the latest 7 backups remain available as long as your account is active, with a terminated backup supscription.
Only support can tell if this assumption is true.

@Michael_Fritzsche & @Sharkys :
I can confirm experiences by @Dijker and @SunBeech : an annual reminder email message is sent automatically:

It’s strange… I expected the subscription to auto-renew. The yearly plan has completely disappeared, and now I had to switch to a monthly plan. I just don’t want to deal with manually renewing every year. The monthly plan is also more expensive, though it does allow me to cancel anytime, which makes the concept even more confusing. If I commit to a yearly subscription, I’m locked in for 12 months, but it seems like they don’t want that either…

I rely on auto-update and auto-renew for a reason. I only read emails when I’m actively expecting them; otherwise, this communication channel feels disruptive and unnecessary. I tend to ignore emails unless something escalates.

First hit on Google for me was: Homey Pro Backups (12 Months) | Homey Store

B.t.w you can add multiple for multiple years.

And the emails

Emails from a trusted domain where you could unsubscribe for all marketing.
And getting a email with a subject:

Re: [Action Required] Your Homey Pro Backups subscription is about to expire.

In my opinion Athom is nothing to blame.

That’s not a subscription—it’s a one-time fee with no auto-renewal. I don’t understand why they didn’t include an option for auto-renewal every 12 months. Isn’t it better to retain customers rather than risk losing them because they forget to renew each year? Strange marketing strategy…

If you want an auto-renewing subscription, then you can via your mobile app store. Though this will always be a monthly subscription and costs approx. 2 euros more on an annual basis. On the upside, you can cancel every month and it renews. So you have options.

That’s your opinion, I prefer that I can choose to renew or not for many things. I keep things that expire and need action in a personal agenda.

Imo just another choice.

Same as that Athom sels Homey Pro without requiring other recurring subscription and cloud version is subscription only.

If you are sure you didn’t receive the above mentioned email pls contact Athom support.

Btw: they said it is a service that doesn’t bring them the big money. I guess that is selling Homey Pro and maybe a little from cloud subscriptions.
Definitely not from the backup subscription.
