Aqara Water Leak Sensor not working

Hi all, yesterday I had an unpleasant homecoming after the long weekend in Germany. The kitchen was under water. I had an issue a year back with another water leakage and therefore positioned 3 Aqara Water Leak detectors under the closets. When I returned home yesterday, all three of them were happily standing in a lake of water, but without giving an alarm. When I installed them, I tested all three, and all three worked just fine. Homey shows them online and no alarm triggered since the tests done (even in Developer Tools). Even after I removed the batteries from the devices, Homey still shows them online and connected and with a full battery charge.

I think its safe to assume, that this is not the way it is supposed to work. Did anybody else see issues around the sensors already?

I am running Homey 12.0.1 and Aqara App 1.10.3.

Kind Regards,
Kay

Homey losing connection to sensors seems to be an issue that’s becoming more and more common, not just with Aqara but with other brands as well.

I have these Aqara sensors too (however not with Homey) and I regularly test them (about once a month), and they always work. So it’s not inherent to these sensors that they stop working after a while.

I use a simple door sensor and doorbell as an intruder alarm, only when I am on vacation. I have noticed several times that not using it a long time and then set the alarm, it will not work. There is always something to repair.
That is why I consider Homey as a toy, not a serieus fail safe system suitable for critical applications. Like burgler alarm, fire alarm, elevator control, hart monitoring system , in fact all unattended applications.

I think Athom might expect some law suits, especially in America, unless they state Homey is not intended for supporting critical (live) systems.

You signed away your right to filing a lawsuit against Athom when you agreed to their T&C’s. Instead, you agreed to binding arbitration (you know, like when a couple got into a car accident with an Uber they were unable to sue Uber because they once used Uber Eats) :man_shrugging:t3:

Wow, that is not good. I cant test them regularly, because they are under the closets, behind a cover. However, if this is going to continue to be a problem, I might need to consider another platform. What good are door, window and water sensors, when they seem to work but dont do their job. Maybe I need to run the water sensors via Apple Home using Home Kitty

HomeKitty won’t be of much help here

 Definitely not something pleasant to experience. I know it’s not apple to apple comparison but I’m using the Aeotec water leak sensor without any trouble and I test them from time to time. Not sure if relevant, but as of today I also don’t use any zigbee router. All my devices communicate directly with Homey

@Robertklep: which Hub do you use for the Aqara Sensors?

zigbee2mqtt

Okay - thanks!

Agreed 100%

Look what Athom marketing dares to publish:
(It says “thoughts”, but it’s obviously read as recommendation by some).

@Peter_Kawa it doesn’t mention “water” :crazy_face:

Check, but you get the message I guess :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

EVIL GRIN  Just wondering, if this is left out on purpose

I think I wasn’t clear, the quote I posted is from the smoke & CO sensor section, as mentioned in the first sentence of that quote;
Hence ‘water’ is not mentioned.

The water leak sensor section mentions this:

“Choose detectors that use reliable communication protocols like Zigbee or Z-Wave to ensure consistent connectivity and prevent missed alerts.”

Kay, did you create flows to receive a notification when a water leak sensor is triggered?

This is a common problem, all Aqara sensors stop communicating with Homey, is my personal experience so far.
Homey is aware of the problem and “looking for a solution”

I advise you to contact support and inform them about your situation as well

They have to fix some serious issues before playing with dashboards…

What is, in your experience, the period after which Aqara sensors stop communicating with Homey?

And which Aqara sensors do you have (so that I have a better understanding of your statement that ‘…all Aqara sensors stop communicating…’)?

The period is different. Sometimes less than 1 hour, sometimes a few days. It is really different.

I do have Aqara temperature and Humidity sensor
I do have Aqara door and window sensor

When you search within the Homey forum as just “online”, you can find a lot of trouble with not working Aqara equipment in combination with Homey.
There is also a aknowledment that they need to solve the problem, and they are aware of the fact that their system is not working as is should in combination with Aqara.

But unfortunately Homey is not working as it should on very much aspects, IMO
