all my other guests and people in the house are on my 192.168.1..xxx netork and all is working well with the smart Presence app. But the Smart Pressence app is not detecting the presence of clients connected to the subnet 192.168.2.xxx. How can I do that with dummys you think ?
The subnet itself is not a problem. Smart Presence does not require Homey and the detected device to be in the same subnet/VLAN.
Homey only needs routed IP connectivity to the device.
In your case:
- Homey:
192.168.1.x - phone/guest device:
192.168.2.x
Your UniFi gateway must therefore allow traffic from the Homey IP (or 192.168.1.0/24) towards 192.168.2.0/24 on the TCP port configured in Smart Presence.
One important detail: do not create a firewall REJECT rule for that port.
Smart Presence determines presence by trying to establish a TCP connection to the device. A reachable phone with a closed port normally responds with a TCP RST / connection refused, which tells the app that the IP host is alive.
So:
ALLOW:
Homey IP -> 192.168.2.0/24 -> configured Smart Presence TCP port
and let the phone itself reject the connection because the port is closed.
If the UniFi gateway DROPs the traffic, Smart Presence gets a timeout and considers the device unavailable.
If the UniFi gateway REJECTs the traffic, the gateway itself generates the rejection even when the phone is offline, which can make Smart Presence believe the device is always present.
Whether UniFi calls 192.168.2.x a “guest network” is irrelevant here. What matters is routing, firewall rules and whether client/network isolation is enabled.
Also make sure the phone has a predictable IP address, preferably via DHCP reservation, as Smart Presence tracks the configured IP address or you have DNS in right shape, you can also use hostnames.
But long story short… there is nothing special required in Smart Presence for another subnet — configure the UniFi routing/firewall correctly and it should work.
Many thanks Sharkys, I will try that solution
!!
And I can confirm its working !! many thanks ![]()
Hello. How the app detect kids?
