[APP][Pro] Amazon Echo - Looking for testers and contributors

Hello,
I just installed the version 1.0.6 and I have these Echos:
3x Echo 4
1x Echo 5
1x Echo Spot 2024
1x Echo Show 8
All devices were detected. I still have the (old) Amazon Alexa app running.
So far I have no problem, will continue to test…

Thank you for this app - I’ve been waiting for this for a long time

Not 100% sure why Say wouldn’t work in Dutch. I’m using a German setup without a problem, anybody else using Dutch experiencing the same issue?

I have been looking for somebody with a Echo Spot 2024 to get the model number to map it to the correct icon! I will try to do an update in the next few days to display that in addition to the serial number, would be great if you could then sent it to me

Where Do i find the Model Nummer? I see only a serial number…

Just added this new Echo app to see if it can replace the Alexa app. So far the testing is oig nice, I have 2 old Echo dot (gen2) 2 Echo dots (gen 4) 1 echo dot large (gen 4), 1 echo sub and 3 echo shows (gen1?).
Many of these support
ALEXA_PRESENCE/MOTION_DETECTION and I would love to get that presence capability in Homey, so the presence is detected by the Echo’s.
Also I use the do not disturb for many routines and those are not available yet I see.

Finally the speaker is working agian, great. It did not stop playing when I told the Echo to stop playing music. I believe that is a amazon music issue but just worth mentioning.

stumbled across this when looking at the [APP][Pro] Amazon - Alexa forum. would this work for me as i am from australia?

I’m just wondering if anyone has used this for announcements to several echo devices? The one issue i had with the current alexa homey app is that some of my announcements tend to fail when sending out to multiple devices. I suspect there is a limitation on the api or configuration of the current alexa homey app. This doesnt happen often but even flows that just send an announcement to 1 device fails.

The other issue is the random disconnects which is most likely a limitation on the api/connection as mentioned by the developer of the Alexa homey app. I’m currently still using it as its better than nothing. The developer for the alexa homey app mentioned that there’s not much configuration he could do to improve on it due to some limitations.

I was about to give up on using echo speakers for notifications as i’m currently testing out a few things on a sonos speaker.

I’m happy to run some tests on this app also as i have many echo devices in the house provided its set up to work in australia.

Works for me. I use an Alexa routine that I run through the app.

I had that issue with the Alexa app (and switched to VoiceMonkey to address it). I’ve been monitoring the Echo app for a few weeks, and no disconnects so far. But I can’t be sure, yet, that it doesn’t suffer the same issue.

Give it a go.

Andy

i should say when i mean several i mean at least 5+ echo devices at the same time. potentially more depending on what triggers it. i know when someone is at my front door, rings my doorbell or the garage opens potentially 10+ echo devices may go off. alexa homey app struggled to keep up where it would either be delayed on some devices or time out.

I did originally use alexa routines for announcements. i originally had a smartthings hub which was ok. had its limitations and got a bit messy using virtual switches to get the job done. that was my first dabble into smart devices outside of the usual smart bulbs and smart plugs.

I wanted something that had a lot more flexibility but wasnt so difficult if someone else wanted to add a few things for their room.

i did check out voicemonkey previously while using the alexa homey app. also looked into it a bit more recently. dont want to overcomplicate my setup incase if a family member wants to add something themselves.

unless its a one time configuration within voicemonkey and the rest is done within Homey i dont want to invest my time configuring it if no one else can use it easily. if i can find a user guide/tutorial/video ill consider looking into it more but haven’t actually found one yet.

i primarily use the alexa homey app for announcements, some voice commands and maybe a couple of alexa routines. from what i can see the echo app looks quite similar as to what functionality im after.

i always wonder whether there is still a limitation sending announcements at all. not sure if this is still valid as the post is old within the alexa homey app forum page.

that was back in 2019. couldnt find anything recent when searching online.

just wasnt sure if im able to use it as i saw post about amazon country and language needing to be mapped on the app. the list didnt appear to have Australia (AU) so i wanted to ask whether it needed to be mapped for australia using english.

i will at one point ill just install the app to see if it just works. just havent had the time to continue configuring my flows and smart devices. i’ve got stuff in boxes collecting dust. haha.

Maybe to clarify some things, I’m using the alexa-remote2 package (same as the other Alexa app) for all interactions with the alexa api, so if a feature is not supported by this package then it won’t be supported by my app. The difference between the other Alexa app is that as far as I remember it uses a two year old version of the package so there might be a bunch stability improvements missing and that I use a more generic approach how to support devices.

I need to check the package again but as far as i remember you always need to run every command/api call against a device or group. I might look into supporting speaker groups which could maybe enable announcements across multiple speakers, but in the meantime you either need to send a command to each device or call a routine which does it on Amazon’s side of things.

thanks for that info. that helps out. currently i mainly just use announcements and commands. hopefully with the stability improvements it alleviates the disconnections and the need to constantly log back in.

from the other posts i see it looks promising specially that its easy to add even the recent echo devices.

with the other alexa homey app i believe you can only send announcements per echo device. i think someone had asked about groups but wasnt possible at the time.

if you can support speaker groups to send announcements that would be a nice feature but ill be happy to set up announcements per echo device. just trying to avoid jumping from one ecosystem to another to perform an action.

hopefully this does not conflict with the alexa homey app installed. i’ll try this out in my free time. just got quite a bit going on personally but at the same time reconnecting/logging back onto the homey alexa app is getting on my nerves.

the amount of echo devices i currently have should be a good test on your app. fingers crossed i can send alot of annoucements in a short period.

would your app work for me if im in australia? the alexa homey app had the option for Australia/AU. i can probably get a screenshot of the language and amazon url it has for AU.

not sure if its still relevant as i was reading this post about someone having issues logging in.

I see no reason why it shouldn’t work with an Australian account, just select amazon.com.au in the settings panel.

ok great. ill give it a go when i can and report back.

I have now published a version which should show you the model number in the advanced setting of a device. If you could share the model number of your echo spot that would be great, then I will map the correct icon.

The link to the app page seems to be broken?

Did you read the text next to the link?

Since there is no stable version yet it might be unavailable in the store between new version updates while waiting for review by Athom.

I have now released the app live to the store. I don’t consider it 100% stable, but I guess that is probably not a fully realistic goal anyways. Probably I won’t find too much time for new features until after the holidays but if someone is running into problems let me know.

Just released version 1.1.0 to the store (for now to test, should hopefully be approved soon). Which adds basic support for speaker groups. Note that you can only influence playback and volume for speaker groups. So sadly no support for speaking messages or running commands.

I have a small feature request :slightly_smiling_face:

I use my echo spot as an alarm clock. I love being able to say: “wake me up at 5am” to set the time, so convenient. Never have to touch any buttons…

Now if it would be possible to get the date/time that is set for the next alarm, I would be able to start the thermostat in the bathroom just in time to get warm before I have to get out of bed.

It was requested multiple times in the other Alexa app thread, I’m sure there’s more users that would appreciate this feature.
