Hey,
I’m looking for some kind of smart alarm clock / bedside device that works with Homey.
Idea is simple:
If I’m home and got work tomorrow → Homey turns the alarm on automatically.
I already have other stuff automated (lights etc.) using my iCal schedule to trigger events.
So really, the only thing I’m missing is reliable acoustic alarming.
I know:
- LaMetric Time (looks nice, but is it loud enough?)
- Amazon Alexa devices (works… until Homey and Alexa decide to hate each other again)
- AWTRIX / Ulanzi Pixel Clock (looks like a nice cheaper option, but does the buzzer actually work as a bedside alarm?)
Anything else people use?
Preferably:
- reliable
- bedside friendly
- loud enough to actually wake me up
- not crazy expensive
Could be Zigbee / WiFi / Matter / whatever
Curious what setups you guys run.
I have an Archos Hello 5. It’s basicly a full Android device in an alarm clock form factor. It has a built in wireless charger on top as well, though it doesn’t have quick charging so I use a regular charger for my phone. The Archos also has a camera and microphone, but you can disable those with a physical slider.
I don’t know if it’s still available, I bought mine second hand a few years ago. It can also run the Homey app for Dashboards. It does run an old version of Android (8.1) so not all apps might be available. It also has built in WiFi (Wireless-N) and Bluetooth (4.2 AFAIK). I use it for the Homey app as well, it works great but is a bit slow (probably because of the heavy animations in the Homey app) and it does crash (reboot) every now and then, don’t know what causes that but it doesn’t matter since it does boot up correctly afterwards.
