I have a set of 4 smart Matter outlets - on Amazon it’s B0CPLKGMQ3. 3x of them are installed, but adding via Homey didn’t work. I scan the QR code, Homey looks and looks, finds nothing. Next click the “Try with Android”, scan and poof, it goes in fine.
The weird thing is that only one of them provides power usage insights.
But even then it doesn’t actually show real power. The Christmas tree is on, it should be showing some power draw …
The other two outlets don’t even offer to show the power insights
I have a sneaking suspicion that they don’t actually track power. Under Advanced Settings there are options for “Power usage when on” and for “off” where you set the value. I’ll fiddle with that.
The Christmas lights power use might be too small? Temporary put a frying pan in it to see if it measures power.
What was the first Matter-over-Thread device you added with your current Android device?
Because right at that moment it / you decide what the default Thread Border Router will be.
(Because this can only be changed by factory reset of the Android device).
I put a small fridge on the outlet - has a small compressor so should have drawn some current. Still shows as 0. Is there any way to see what the device provides ? A debug mode to watch any packets back and forth for a device ? How can one see what the default Thread Border Router is ?
I’m afraid I don’t recall which was the first Matter device I added. I do have several Aqara devices - U100 lock, several Water Leak Sensors, a T1 Valve Controller. Those are all added to an M100 hub (via zigbee I think) which then provides them to Homey via Matter through the M100 hub.
For adding Matter devices it can be a bit troublesome … As soon as a new Matter device goes into pairing mode, the phone (Pixel 9 Pro XL) sees it and offers to add it. That process then wants to know what app/controller to add it to (Alexa, Google Home etc.) and Homey is NOT on the list.
Within Homey, adding a Matter device offers to add via Homey or Android. Adding via Homey fails 100% of the time. THEN choose “Add via Android” and it adds in fine, and is added to Homey cleanly. If I do NOT choose the “Add via Homey” first, then it does the original Android process, wanting to know what app/controller to add to.
It’s as if something is set during the “Add via Homey” so that “Add via Android” does it all within Homey.
