Visual Accessibility for Deaf people

Hello, i am deaf and considering purchasing a Homey Pro for visual accessibility. For example, when someone rings the doorbell, all the lights in the house flash for 20 seconds or 10 times, and an indicator bulb in each room (such as a Philips Hue light) changes color—green for the doorbell, red for a fire alarm, etc.

Regarding configuration, is it easy to set up in Homey Pro, or do you need to be a developer (e.g., creating scripts)?

Thank you in advance for your help.

It pretty simple to create a flow in homey that can do this.

Hello @Fab86 ,
It might be a philosophical discussion, wether creating flows is programming or developing.
Somehow it is, but you can start with very simple flows (even *advanced flow can be simple and easy to understand). Later you can check how far you can come. If you are manage to create and maintain complex flows or complex set of flows, I would say it is somehow software development.
First you need the necessary tools, like a smart home ring button, or a low voltage switch that you can connect to your existing doorbell system and some smart switches or smart bulbs, that you want to flash. Start only with a few (one per room). I will explain later, why.
You do not need many things to start with your idea. You can do it straight forward by telling your Homey Pro to switch on lights, wait some seconds, switch them off, and so on. But that is just for learning, I won’t recommend this for long time use.
So then you need one of the apps, which can perform loops or transitions.
So you can tell your Homey Pro to do the flashing n times.
And if the switches or bulbs are configered as light, the flow just needs to switch all lights in your home or in a zone or group.
Later when you have many lights to switch (I don’t know, but I guess, more than 20, someone might correct me), switching all lights at once, might be too much for your Homey Pro. Some people tell that Homey then forgets some of the lights.
That is why I propose to start with a few lights.
Later when you realise the simple solution has some issues, just ask here for a work-around, as you can do for each single step.
Just try to search for a solution, and when you do not find one or if it still sounds too difficult, ask for help.
For findig some devices to use, you can check in the Best Buy Guide. In doubt search or ask for experience of other users.
Oh just another idea: you can also send some kind of message to your mobile phone, which you might recognise by haptic action.
So have fun Fabien! Dirk
