[TUTORIAL][PRO] How to integrate Home Assistant with Homey

Did not work just the first Adde servicechef is in HA but no new

Hitting the [Broadcast] button can help as well.

Are you sure you configured it with these custom settings?

That is done but now the app is crashing all the time

MQTT Hub? Then it’s perhaps this issue:

Ok just that i dont know how to do what you suggest I do not have sufficient knowledge of how to do it.
I need step by step guide to achieve this :frowning:

We need an app update from the developer :man_shrugging:

Yes we do need an uppdate.

@Peter_Kawa

Hi,

First of all!
Thank you so much for the guide!

I’ve got the sensors over to HA but when triggering a lamp for example. Nothing happens.
Can’t see any issues in the logs either. It’s all connected.

Any thoughts?
Thanks!

No problem!

When you mean, Homey devices added to HA don’t respond, when operated from HA, try this:
go to the MQTT Hub app part in post # 1, and copy the custom settings as shown in the screenshot.

Here is the translation to English:

“Hello, everyone. I’ve been using Homey for over a year, but during that time I’ve also been experimenting with Home Assistant. I’ve finally decided to stick with Home Assistant, but I have many devices integrated into Homey, especially ZigBee devices. My question is whether I can transfer all the ZigBee devices I have in Homey to Home Assistant all at once. Thanks for everything.”

Home Assistant has its own Zigbee network, so you will have to move each device over to HA individually.

I suspected as much. Thanks

ok to get this clear, is the following correct? ;

With MQTT I can easy add all Homey devices to HA and visualize them.

However when I only want my HA devices in Homey and visualize them I only need the Home Assistant app from RonnyW? Would in this scenario there also be any benefit getting devices from Home Assistent to Homey via MQTT ? And can I use these devices also in Advanced flows?

Currently I run most of my zigbee devices via Homey via the Tuya local app. However many are not yet supported by the app since updates take a long time. On top of that Homey 2023 doesn’t have a zigbee networking map to see which devices connect to which one, so I’m thinking in the future to switch to HQ for my zigbee network, yet keep homey for the interface and flows. What would you advices to use to make the connection between HA and Homey as smooth as possible?

Hi,

I’m glad to hear you like the tutorial

Yes.
You’ll need MQTT Hub + Client on Homey.
And a MQTT Broker on either HA or Homey.
And the MQTT integration on HA.
Every device you select in the MQTT Hub config will be published to HA automatically

Yes. Ánd you can control them, as if it were devices paired with Homey.

To me just adding the devices per ‘Ronny HA app’ the easiest and clearest way.
But, you’re free to create virtual MQTT Hub devices, which listen to selected MQTT topics.
And yes, these devices can be used in flows.
But, you can listen to MQTT topics directly in flows if you like (with MQTT Client trigger cards)

Tuya is asking for troubles. It’s not it’s a very bad quality, but they just do as they please with zigbee ‘standards’. Some router devices can seriously cripple your zigbee mesh.
Besides that, I use zigbee2mqtt and, besides one major f-up by the devs last year, it runs rock solid. With a bunch of Tuya stuff as well
Z2M is pure bliss. From bicycle to limo so to speak :facepunch:

What I did is exactly what I described in this tutorial. It’s the same setup. I’m very pleased with the teaming of both platforms this way.

Dank je @Peter_Kawa . I noticed Homey also supports ESP32, so I’m now using that to integrate my heatpump, instead of MQTT. Would MQTT offer any advantage over directly ESP32?

Which platform are you intending to run on top of that processor to interact with Homey? ESPHome? HomeyDuino?

ESPHome. Already working on rebuilding the Ecodan Melcloud panel

I think the ESPHome app is easier to use than MQTT.

Hi Peter,

many many thanks for your tutorial, it is basically self explanatory. My HA can see Homey devices as the other way around. I only encountered one issue as described below:

  • I have finally managed (after long struggle) to have my Tuya thermostats show proper temperatures (under HA) and they work properly
  • I have gone thru your tutorial and seems everything OK on both ends
  • I have installed HA devices on Homey (e.g. the properly installed thermostats).
  • when I try to control these thermostats via Homey I get server error:

what is even stranger: it only happens in case of one of these thermostats (floor heatng) and only when I am decreaseing temperature. When I increase temperature it works perfectly (as the other two thermostats too both ways - up and down…).

Any idea how to fix this?

Best and many thanks in advance

J.

You’re very welcome, Jurek.

No clue, sorry, assuming you use the Home Assistant community app, I suggest to post your issue at the specific topic:
https://community.homey.app/t/app-pro-home-assistant-community-app/71477

But, please note it can be something “funny” from the Tuya crew as well!
