I am interested in a way to get temperature readings into homey for freezer, fridge, jacuzzi water, water heater/boiler etc.
The suggestions I find for this is a DS18B20 attached to a shelly uni plus.
And for the freezer also AA/AAA batteries soldered to an Aqara device or similar can also last for a while.
First of all, I wonder how stable this Shelly uni actually is, I see people reporting it needs to be reset/rebooted a lot etc. And what is the actual WiFi range like? ( normally the provided range values are far away from the truth).
And is there any way to receive notifications from Homey IF device is “offline”/values 0 or value haven’t been updated in xx time.
I also appreciate other/better suggestions for other devices/solutions at a reasonable price.
But I’ve Aqara zigbee sensors in fridge and freezer, works great.
Probably those are not-so-good Faraday cages, and it probably depends on the used model
And a DS18B20 is a wired sensor, the Shelly Uni can be put on the outside of the fridge.
It can handle up to -20°C according to the specs, but regularly shows -21 or even lower.
Freezer is just set to -18°C.
Did I just have “the right model”?
Hi,
I have exactly this configuration, with three Shelly unis, each with two DS18B20 sensors, measuring the temperatures of:
Freezer / Water boiler (they are next to each other)
Air heat pump, floor 1, intake / outlet air temperatures
Air heat pump, floor 2, intake / outlet air temperatures
I have had them about a year now, and they have worked flawlessly, without any problems at all. I can’t say much about WiFi range, though, as I have a meshed WiFi network with good coverage of the whole house.
They are all powered by power adapters, not batteries.
I have installed an uni plus with a DS18B20 sensor, but does anyone know what is causing the temperature value to disconnect for a couple of seconds? It happens up to several times in a hour. I have seen others having problems with this aswell, but not a solution.
I am powering it with a 5V USB charger. I have tried opening ports 6010, 6011, 6012, 6020, 6021, 6022, 6110, 6113, 5353, 443.
Also tried swapping out for another USB charger. Rated around 800mA
