Taking over an application from a previous programmer

The author of an app hasn’t been developing it for years, but he offered to take it over from him. How should this be implemented in practice?

The app owner has to transfer it to another user.
There is no other way as the owner has the copyright, so Athom won’t get involved.
The only other solution is a new developer tries to publish a new app with a different id but Athom will likely block it.

Yes, he said earlier that he would gladly give it to someone. My question is about the official route.

Adrian described the official way.

  • Send your account ID to the other developer.
    Homey Developer Tools

  • The other dev hands over the app to your account

  • You get a mail and can accept the app

Then it appers in your app list. You can publish new versions now.

hi, is the handover implemented? I would luke to handover the Schneider Electric app for continuing development and maintenance by another developer.

I cant find a “handover” option in the apps developer pages.

best regards

Hi @Tjar,

You have to select your app in the developer pages, end next scroll all the way down. There you’ll see Transfer App.

hi,

Thanks for the reply. I only see “delete app” at the bottom of the page.

Probably your app is never published to live. Only for test

its in state that the build publication did not succeed. I have the option “delete”, but does thag delete the current version or the complete app? It’s not clear what ‘delete’ will do.

I also have an app that only shows the delete option, but that app still has a build with Review approved status and has no build earlier promoted to Live, only test.

All my apps that have at least 1 Live build show the Transfer app section.

If that’s not the case for you I suggest to contact Athom.

Probably delete the whole app from the store and release the appID to be free.

Is it this one? https://homey.app/en-us/app/Schneider.modbus/Schneider-Electric/test/

If I remove test from the URL it says 404

no, I have already published versions of this app. The latest publication failed and was, now again published it and now its live.

But it still only shows “delete”.

I’ll contact Athom support.

thank you for your input.

I doubt,

If I push the " Back to the regular version"
It tells me there is no stable version.

If you didn’t push/publish the approved /Test version to stable, every next update you publish is overwriting a test version. Users can only find the app using the direct link. (including /test)
