Strange Issue - iPhone presence

Hello everyone!
So I have been using Homey Pro for a few months now and (for the most part) everything has been going fine. But, starting yesterday, something odd is happening…

I have a few presence based automations and until yesterday they were working fine. An important detail to know is this: I had an iPhone 15 Pro Max and my wife had an iPhone 13 pro. Yesterday, I upgraded to the 16 Pro Max and my wife inherited my 15 Pro Max. We did the swap and everything is good… but now my presence based automations aren’t starting.

We both have the app installed on our phones, location is enabled - I can’t think of what might be going wrong. Any ideas?

On your old iPhone: in the Homey app, did you log out of your Homey account and subsequently log in with your wife’s?

On your wife’s old iPhone: did you disable the location services in the Homey app or remove the app?

On your new iPhone: did you enable the location services in the Homey app?

Enabling location/presence detection can be done via:

  • ‘More’ tab > Permissions > Location, and;
  • Profile picture > My account > ‘Use presence detection’ toggle.

Ok, so when we did the phone upgrade, I assumed it would be straight forward. We have done this many times - I like new gadgets and my wife doesn’t really care (I think thats a fairy typical situation). So when I had my number attached to my new phone, I factory reset the iphone 15 and relied on the cloud to get everything up and running on my new iphone 16 (which, as far as I can tell, it did). We then attached my wifes number to the iphone 15 and factory reset her old iphone and, again, let the cloud do its work for her as well.

My phone has location enabled, set to “always” and has precise location turned on. My wife is asleep right now so I can’t check hers. But when I got back from the gym this morning my presence based flow did not fire.

SHOULD I log out of Homey and back in? If so, should I do it on the Hub, the phone, or both? Or neither?
Should I restart the Homey hub?

Oh, and I think the Homey was aware that I was home when it did not fire my presence based flow - I seem to recall checking, but I am out of shape so I come home very tired from the gym and may not be remembering exactly correct lol!

:rofl:

Location detection is tied to mobile devices, so your phones in this case. I assume you and your wife both have your own Homey account (in order for Homey to know who is who). On your phones in the Homey app you need to be logged in with your own respective accounts. Also the location and presence settings have to be enabled.

If you have enabled these settings on your phone, but Homey does not recognize when you leave or get home, then logging out from your Homey app on your phone and then logging in again might retrigger/reactivate the location services. Also a restart of your phone might help.
