Smartest radiator valve for homey, tuya's break down after 2 years

Hi,

For some years I am using tuya radiator valves (HY368) using the Tuya Zigbee app from Jurgen Heine and a developer account at Tuya with homey. Since they are cheap alas also the build quality is not so good. After about 2 years of frequent use like in a living room the motor breaks down. Frustratingly motors that are the spitting image of the one in the HY368 are sold on ali cs for just 2 euro but with not the correct cog on the front.

So I buy new ones and put the circuit board from the old one in the new one to keep my zigbee id and automations the same. Since now the Sonoff TRV’s are not so much more expensive and I see supported by the official app I am wondering if there is already experience with their build quality or if other options are on the table? Prices for Tado and the likes are definitely not an option, 30 euro per valve is max.

>small adjustment: i replace te batteries with eliminators to a asb adapter through a drilles hole in the lid so such an option is nice too.

You might have snookered yourself with those requirements. Cheap and quality don’t often go together when it comes to mechanical devices. I’ve used the Drayton Wiser system for many years (well before COVID) and only two have failed, and one of those was my fault for leaving dead batteries in the device over summer - they leaked). They don’t connect to Homey directly, but Alexa has a skill for them. I don’t need any automation over what the system provides, though.

I think you might have to increase your budget to get the quality you want.

Andy
