Hello, long time smart home enthusiast, recently joined the Homey club.
What smart thermostat to use? I am based in the EU (220V mains)
I am designing a new heating/cooling system for my house and I need some help.
The house doesn’t have central heating and is not wired for traditional thermostats. I have a gas boiler in the basement and radiators in each room. In addition I have a multi-split AC units in each room. They are not suitable for wired thermostats. I am planning on controlling them using IR built into the Homey Pro.
Ideally I want to have something like Nest or Ecobee thermostat in each room where family members can adjust temperature, schedules etc. The thermostat itself doesn’t have to do anything other than just reporting this. I will pick it up in Homey Pro and control AC and/or the radiator valves accordingly. Have you found any such products that work well? Bonus points if it can be wire powered.
It seems like thermostats are either for existing central heating systems wiring. Maybe a hack how to run Nest or Ecobee off of mains?
I am saying thermostat because it is the closest formfactor to what I need.
If I have a device that looks like a thermostat, has the same options and controls, then I can use it to read its set point and send it selectively to radiator valves and/or air conditioner.
Its just most solutions are separate, I can have Tado radiator valves coupled with Sensor X, this could act as a panel where I can select a temperature and it will be sent to the radiator but it doesnt add as a standalone device in Homey, so I cant read it to control the AC for example. I could get the Tado Air Conditioning V3+ which also is a wall mounted panel where I can set a setpoint and it will be sent to the AC, but… surprise surprise, it cant control the Tado Radiator valves. And I dont want to have 2 identical panels 1 controling the radiator and 1 controlling the AC.
I want a single device in the room where I can control the temperature. It seemed like the most obvious thing in home automation, but turns out there is no such solution, or at least I couldn’t find one…
Yeah, something like the Sonoff panel might work, but I don’t see it listed as supported device by Homey.
