Radiator thermostats controlled by temperature sensors

How can I control my radiator thermostats with temperature sensors?

I have big, old radiators with stone and marble shelves above them - not ideal, I know. Using radiator thermostats alone doesn’t work as the temperature under the shelf rises quickly, switching off the thermostat and leaving the room still cold.

  • Which radiator thermostats and temperature sensors would you recommend?
  • Ideally without any additional bridge or app.
  • They should function directly in Homey Pro.
  • In some cases, a single temperature sensor should control multiple radiator thermostats.

Thanks for any feedback

I am using Danfoss for this.
If you buy the thermometer too the thermostat on the radiator will use that for temperature measuring instead of the built in.
I think it is the Ally model.

Works great, but will not integrate with Homey if you want the thermostate to use the thermometer. As far as I know…

Thanks for the reposnse Anders_Gregow.

Other than Danfoss, does anyone know of it is possible (possibly with a flow) for an external themostat, like the Aqara Room Thermostat W100 or Wireless Temperature Sensor X to set the temperature of a radiator thermostat, like Aqara Smart Radiator Thermostat E1 or Tado Radiator Thermostat X.

I also have Netatmo thermostates which I controll via a flow.

If windows is opened I set the target temperature to lowest.
I tried regulating the target temperature according to room temperature but that did not work so good in my opinion.

The “Wireless Temperature Sensor X” from Tado can be directly added to Homey via Matter (Thread) and in Homey you can change target temperature and receive measured temperature. So in flows you can basically control everything. I just set that up 30 minutes ago. When pressing the up button the change of target temperature triggers to set the target temperature of my Bosch thermostats/radiators.

My only problem, why I am still looking for alternatives: The display of the tado is not permanently on and there is no hack to change that. Other than that it would basically be perfect :frowning:

The Eve Temperature Sensor that is Matter compatible looks nice and got best reviews in a YouTube video where they compared Tado, Bosch, Aqara and Eve.

looks really good. But: It does not come with any buttons :frowning:

It has buttons.

I already saw that one but I was held back by the remark on the webpage “Eve Thermo Control requires Eve Thermo (4th generation), upgraded to Matter. Existing, HomeKit-enabled devices (4th generation) are eligible for a free upgrade” combined with the fact that the device is not listed in Homeys official Eve-App.

But are you telling me that this device can directly be added to Homey as a matter device without an extra hub and in homey the buttons and target temperature can be defined via flows? That would be awesome!!

I do not know if it works but ordered today so will soon know

So how is the Eve Thermo Control? Sorry for being pushy, but I am just too curious.

Hi Magnil, did you try the Eve Thermo Control? Could it be used without a bridge? I now also have a few Tado valves with a Tado Temperature Sensor and as Markus1 suggests, doesn’t look great with no display.

Got out of hands as usual :see_no_evil_monkey:. Bought Tado, Eve and Aqara. Both thermostats and thermostat sensors. But have been on vacation so have not tried them yet.

I would like to pair them directly to Homey with matter but as I understand it I can not do that and get them to adjust to the thermostat sensor, have to use their own app and pair that to Homey. Do not like to have to use more apps.

I have Aqara E1s and they have a flow card to set room temp from a separate sensor. It works fine for a bit but then they ‘forget’ and the flow cards start failing until you manually reset the setting on the E1 device in Homey that tells it to use a separate temp sensor. I’ve got 11 of these and have had them for 15 months or so and have tried multiple times and same result every time.

I recently also tried a Shelly BLU Trv with allows you to use a Shelly Blu temp sensor. I couldn’t get that working reliably either.

Very interested to hear any solutions confirmed reliable over a period of months.

I use Danfoss Ally.
You need to have the Ally hub too.
The thermostate will then use the temperature from the temperature sensor.
Works great.
And with the new Danfoss Ally Homey app I am able to control the temperature too.
