Several geofences/zones ie. "school" or "work"

Hi, tried to search the forum, but could not find an exact answer to my feature request: In home assistant its possible to define zones outside home, as in “school” og “work”. I find it weird that it isn’t a feature thats present natively with Homey Pro? Could someone from Athom explain why not, as it seems as a relevant functionality in a integrating smart hub. I ofcourse, do not know what tehcnicalities it involves, but it just seems rather logic to have that functionalty as theres already a zone-logic in the system, and a location-funtion in the settings. I am aware of owntracks etc. and i have been tweaking and fiddling with it, and still it’s a often a bit hit’n’miss if the flows work. So its a feature-request AND a question out of curiousity

TIA, Christian

It’s probably best to submit a support request if you want a definitive answer, this is a community forum that Athom doesn’t officially follow (another weird thing :man_shrugging:t3:).

As my Homey is always at Home😁, I am just curious to see some use cases which clarifies your feature request.

There are indeed use cases. For example, when I leave work, I want the heating temperature to be set higher. I already do this when we are on vacation, leave our hotel on the day of departure and it’s the heating season.

But instead of using Owntracks and Location and Presence app, I use web hooks with an iPhone geofencing app (Geofency), also for the generell Home/Away detection.

In case of Android:
Maybe it’s due to the tighter app permissions:
I use owntracks+location&presence, and Macrodroid+webhooks, very reliable.
But,
with Android 13+, I found out I have to ‘force’ start Owntracks after a phone reboot, and also I make sure it gets started when I leave my home location.
Macrodroid macros control those actions.

I’m just gonna let you work that out all by yourself, as i wasn’t talking about the Homey device itself, but are talking about the Zone-functionality, and expanding that to other zones than the only one currently available (Home)

Thanks, i wasn’t sure if i was posting the right place - but now it lingers both places  . I already got an response, but no answer (from Athom). It’ll be taking to notice, which probably means i won’t be holding my breath

Thanks @Peter_Kawa, all has been checked with app-permissions, battery-rules etc. The Owntracks app is visible as a curtain-notification on my phone and my wifes phone. I’ll have to look into the macrodroid+webhook thing, as the biggest trouble is with my sons iphone, which really hates to allow other apps communicating, besides bulit-in Apple-labeled stuff…is the solution you use, heavy on the iphone battery?

Then you can find out for yourself.

:+1:

To be clear, Homey’s zone activity and geofencing are two completely different things.
Homey’s zone activity works via door/window and motion sensors. This also works independently of a smartphone.

Homey’s Home/Away detection, whether at home or at work, if it were possible, only works with a smartphone via geofencing.

To be more clear: with “Zone-functionality” I assume OP means “as implemented in Home Assistant”, where “zone” means “geographical zone”.

But this is a Homey forum, not a Home Assistant forum.

So what’s the Homey word for the same functionality?

Home/Away or Presence detection.

That’s not the same functionality, though, hence the question and the reference to (Home Assistant’s) zones.

No one said that this is the same function and that this function exists in Homey.
It has already been mentioned several times that Homey doesn’t have such a function for multiple locations on board. Also, I explained what Homey user means by Zones (Activity) and how it works.
So I think you are just playing around with words.
