Self hosted server and the IKEA DIRIGERA

Hi everyone,

I’m running into an issue with IKEA Matter integration and I’m hoping someone has seen this before.

My setup

  • Homey Self-Hosted

  • Homey Bridge

  • IKEA DIRIGERA (firmware 2.901.5)

  • Matter version 1.0

  • 3x IKEA KAJPLATS (Matter over Thread)

Important: Homey Self-Hosted + Bridge does not support Thread, so everything has to work via DIRIGERA as a Matter bridge
(Thread → DIRIGERA → Matter over WiFi → Homey).

The issue

When I add DIRIGERA to Homey using the Matter pairing code from the ikea app:

  • The bridge is added successfully

  • The Matter device appears in Homey

  • But no bridged endpoints (no lights) show up

  • I only see the root bridge device

All 3 KAJPLATS spots work perfectly in the IKEA app.

What I’ve already tried

  • Removed the Matter bridge from Homey

  • Power-cycled DIRIGERA (30+ seconds)

  • Waited a few minutes before pairing again

Still no bridged endpoints.

Important detail

At a colleague’s office, the exact same type of setup (Homey Self-Hosted + Bridge + DIRIGERA + IKEA lights) does work, and the bridged light endpoints do appear in Homey.

So it seems technically possible.

Any help from others running this setup would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

EDIT: After further testing I’ve gathered some additional information.

In Homey, when I open the DIRIGERA Matter device, I see:

  • Device types: root_node, aggregator

  • No bridged_node

  • No light endpoints

  • No child devices at all

So Homey clearly sees the bridge itself, but no bridged endpoints are being exposed.

Additional testing results

  • An old IKEA TRÅDFRI Remote Control does appear in Homey.

  • A IKEA STYRBAR does not appear.

  • My IKEA KAJPLATS (Matter over Thread) also does not appear.

Important:
Everything is connected only via Matter (I linked DIRIGERA to Homey using the Matter code). I am not using the IKEA Homey app integration.

What this seems to indicate

  • The Matter bridge pairing works.

  • The bridge itself is visible in Homey.

  • However, DIRIGERA is not exposing any bridged endpoints (or only exposing certain legacy devices).

Because I’m using Homey Self-Hosted + Homey Bridge (no Thread support), the KAJPLATS spots must be exposed via the DIRIGERA Matter bridge to be usable in Homey.

Right now, that does not seem to happen.

My main question

Does DIRIGERA expose native Matter-over-Thread devices (like KAJPLATS) as bridged endpoints over Matter?

Or is this currently a limitation of the DIRIGERA Matter bridge implementation?

I had about the same problem. After enabling IPv6 on my Unraid server I can connect Matter enabled Ikea devices without a hitch. No need for the DIRIGERA bridge.

is this also true for the ikea KAJPLATS? since from what I can see its only matter over thread.. Could you tell me what devices you connected?

EDIT: Since not everything is matter over Wifi

I must say I also have the Homey bridge transferred from the Homey Pro so that must be dealing with the Tread portion. I’ve got several KAJPLATS bulbs connected. With IPv6 disabled they would not register in Homey either.

Edit: I checked….

so.. you are running homey on the homey pro or still selfhosted? If on the homey pro thats means why you can connect to them since that has thread support and the homey selfhosted with the bridge does not without a Thread Border Router.

No, I’m migrating from the Homey Pro to Homey SHS

okay and the links for your ikea KAJPLATS do you link them using the homey pro for the thread part? Since I think there is sadly no other way of connecting them to homey. Since everything I have tried with the ikea DIRIGERA bridge did not work for the newer lights and remotes, the old lights and remotes did go to homey and I can control them via homey.

I installed the Ikea home smart app and in Homey SHS I just did add device (via Ikea), scanned the Matter code and they were connected. Homey bridge was connected to Homey SHS. Once connected is was easy to share them with Home Assistent and Apple Home. Unfortunately we can only create a new Matter pairing code in the mobile Homey app.

I tested it and for the bilresa it has worked! its paired via homey. I will check if I can pair my KAJPLATS lights later since they are in use now

Thanks already for the help! I will come back to this and tell you if it has worked or not.

I tried to pair the KAJPLATS g10 spots but they did not work without a thread border router. I can pair the matter ikea buttons like the bilresa. Any idea on what could work?

I have an Apple TV and two HomePod minis that can function as a border router.
