Roof Power Outlet

Hi Everyone,

New to here, we have a power outlet in our roof cavity that is on with no switch and it powers a 24v transformer for our heated towel rail. I am wondering if anyone has had success with using a plug in smart plug to control. I see the temp limit is 50 degrees on most. In regional Victoria Australia so can get warm and wondering if it will work or not. Any thoughts greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Brad

Wouldn’t it be possible to install a Homey-compatible switching relay in the supply line, for example in the distribution panel?

FWIW, I had a similar problem with a cooker hood light. I couldn’t get to the power line to the transformer (which would have been a better option), but second best was to fit one of these. I have the 7-32v bundle with shell. It copes with a wide range of voltages either AC or DC - so should work with your 24v feed. It interfaces with Homey via WiFi and Tuya. Connection to Homey has been very reliable since I installed it 5 months ago - we use it several times a day operated by a presence sensor connected to Homey - response times are good.

If you’re opposed to using Tuya’s servers it has a 433Mhz option, but that’s no guarantee it will interface to Homey (and it’s not something I wanted to get involved with). I guess that, because the device exists, there might be similar devices with alternate connection possibilities out there. I looked, but couldn’t find one at the time.

Ideally, but there are several power points on the single line so not possible

Thank you for the detailed reply. I hadn’t thought of trying to control it from the low voltage side, I will do some investigating!

Cheers
