Hi,
When i connect my ring doorbell (2th gen) to homey, i can watch the live view and motion detection works in flows. But after connecting to homey I don’t receive any notifications from the original Ring app anymore, and when someone presses the doorbell nothing happens. I can’t get the flow to be triggered, also in the logs it doesn’t show that the doorbell has been pressed…
When i delete homey from authorised devices in the Ring app, i get messages again from the Ring app.
I really want to create a flow to play the doorbell sound on my speakers, but can’t get it to work. How can i fix this problem?
I’m using the homey pro mini
Thanks!
Hey Rein! How did you get the outdoor contact sensor to work? I have installed the Ring app on my phone and added the contact sensor successfully. Then I installed the Ring app in the Homey app and authenticated with my Ring account but it says no devices are found.
Hey I have a Spotlight cam, and in this app it is not supporting the live view, claiming it is a battery based device. It is not. Its fully powered external cam with big lights etc.
Hi Vincent,
A Ring Spotlight Cam should definitely be able to show Live Video. Can you check the Power Management settings of the cam in the Ring Smartphone app?
Which exact type of Spotlight Cam is this?
Hi JP,
Which Ring app did you install on your Homey? The ‘official’ or community app?
Hi JP
Welcome to the club
See: Ring Doorbell, Camera and Alarm support for Homey
I think this will help you.

Installing your Hardwired Kit for Spotlight Cam Wired/Mount
The gen 2 is advertised as battery only, but mine had both option and min is the wired one.
I dont see a power management option in the device settings in the Ring mobile app for my camera ![]()
The device in Homey states, something went wrong showing the live stream with a red line stating it is not supported for battery powered devices.
I’ve sent you a PM to get some additional information.
New version published
Version: 2.14.22
- Improved power mode detection
This version adds correct recognition of a hard wired Ring Spotlight Cam, thanks @Kaoh for reporting.
I tried your “Ring” community app which lists Contact Sensor as a supported device and I also tried your “Ring Security” community app which explicitly lists the Outdoor Contact Sensor as a supported device.
For the “Ring” community app, I am able to authenticate my Ring account but then it does not recognize my Outdoor Contact Sensor. It just says “No devices found” presumably because that app does not explicitly support *Outdoor *Contact Sensors.
For the “Ring Secuity” community app, I don’t get prompted to connect my Ring account. Instead, I get stuck at a screen telling me to “Use a paperclip to tap the pinhole button”. When I do that, nothing happens.
Thanks for your help in troubleshooting this issue!
Yeah, the Ring Security app will add the Ring sensors as Z-Wave devices, to be used when you don’t have a basestation so that’s not the route you want to take.
I have no Outdoor Motion Sensor myself, so I have not tested this myself, but I was under the impression others have added it before.
Anyway, let’s try to troubleshoot this. Can you please stop and start the app, wait a bit and send a Diagnostics Report. Next, try to add the device and when no device is shown to add, cancel th procedure and send another Diagnostics Report. After doing so, please inform me so I can have a look at the reports.
Just to clarify, I am not trying to connect an Outdoor Motion Sensor. I am trying to connect an Outdoor Contact Sensor, i.e. would be installed onto a fence gate: Amazon Link.
Nonetheless, here are the diagnostic report ids:
Before attempting to add: e11bbcf2-8a65-4d58-b8bb-784a77006ce6
After attempting to add: cefa424a-1598-4c29-817f-11df228f8905
Hi @jpangelle,
The type of sensor Motion vs Contact doesn’t actually matter, on (successful) pairing the app will use the correct driver for the device.
I’ve looked at the logs, I see the app hasn’t been restarted as it’s initialisation in both logs is from 3 juli, but it doesn’t matter that much as the attempt to add the device shows the same log lines.
I do however see something that surprised me, there’s one location found but that location does not have a Ring Alarm basestation. When I look at the link yo’ve given this sensor seems to be an Amazon Sidewalk device, and what I read there it seems to me this sensor operates on a proprietary network created by numerous Amazon and Ring devices in you neighbourhood.
Unfortunately I can not read anything about this on the Ring website as that information is not shown to me as I’m visiting that site from outside the US.
Can you confirm this, do you not have a Ring Alarm Basestation and does this sensor operate on a network created by Amazon and Ring devices?
I ended up just returning the sensors and ordered some generic ones that explicitly support Z-Wave. Thanks for your help!
@DaneedeKruyff , first of all, thanks for a fantastic app! Question: Would it be possible to add a flow card “turn on/off light on motion”? Background: Automate “light on on motion” on when nobody is at home. As soon as one of us returns (automated by mobile phone tracking on homey) to turn off the “light on motion”.
Hi @Michael_Scholz,
Thanks, can you elaborate, I’m not sure I understand your request. Can’t you just make your flows conditional based on the presence?
Thats what I want to do, but the ring card “Turn on or off the light on movement at night” would be required. The “light on movement at night” on my spotlight and floodlight cams is usually off. Now, when nobody is at home I would like to be able to turn it on via flow. I check via the app smart presence who is at home and who is not at home. That works fine allready with my indoor cameras which I turn on and off with smart plugs and then activate movement detection (flow below). I would now like to do the same with the ring card “turn light on on movement at night” which is available in the ring app under settings > light settings > turn on light on movement at night (translation to English might be wrong).
Ah, ok, now I understand what you’re trying to achieve.
I will have to do some research if this is possible.
New test version published
Version: 2.14.23
- Added motion-activated floodlight setting with flow cards to enable/disable it
Added a setting for Motion-Activated Lights, same as in the Ring Mobile app
And flow cards to use this functionality dynamically based on your own needs
@Michael_Scholz please test this and let me know the result!
