Ring Doorbell, Camera and Alarm support for Homey

Hi Peter,

The link to the test version can be easily found in the opening post of this topic, and also throughout the topic.

I do wonder how installing the test version will help you out though as the test versions after the most recent stable only contain changes to improve the power method type for cameras.

So, to the problem you’re facing.

You no longer receive notification; Which device type are we talking about? Camera, Doorbell, Intercom, Alarm sensors?

What -is- still working? Can you open a camera/doorbell and see a snapshot or live video?

Can you show (screenshot!) the flow that is no longer working for you?

Thanks!

Thanks. It is a wired doorbell pro 3rd generation. I can still get a live view in the homey dashboard. I’m just not getting any notifications.

Ok, can you please make a new simple flow: tirggered on movement and and as action write to the timeline, no conditions.

Next, stop the app, start it again, and after a minute or 2 step in front of the doorbell.
After that, send me a Diagnostics Report from the app.

Some extra questions,

  • Do Ring events work?
  • Is Motion Detection enabled on the device?
  • Is Motion Alerts enabled on Homey for this device?

Thanks Danee.

Strange: Ring events had been working during the day, Motion detection and alerts enabled in the ring app. But after I disabled and enabled your App, then went and stepped in front of the doorbell I didn’t get an alert from Ring.

Not sure how I check if motion alerts are enabled on Homey.

What I saw in the timeline. Not sure what this means.

Ring device timeline. The motion alarms align with Ring motion events detected earlier in the day.

Hi Peter,

The log unfortunately is not useful as the app seems to have crashed right after starting due to a memory issue.
But the screenshot showing the Motion alarm turned on and off tells me the app registers the motion events.
Most likely cause is the settings in the Doorbell device, both Use Motion Detection and Use Motion Alerts should be Yes:

(Also, make sure to check it in the Ring app, if it’s disabled at Ring the settings in Homey are overruled)

All settings are as per your directions above. Thought I would try again.

Certainly the device in Homey is registering a motion event. But nothing is being triggered in the flow.

I have exactly the same issue sinds the last week, removed the device and authentication and added it again and doesn’t work, did al the steps you advised and still no movement alerts, but the doorbell alert works, the motions are also captured in the log

I have also had a long time that the Homey motion detection no longer works. It worked, once.

Settings set as described in various posts here. If I stand in front of the doorbell, I almost immediately get a motion notification via the Ring app. I ring the same bell. That works.

I now have the flow below, with an extra logic. Almost the same for ringing the doorbell but different trigger. When I tested, I was always asked to click on the motion type at the motion detector, hence this strange detour. But still, this doesn’t help. It does not trigger both the doorbell card and the motion detector card. With the test button in the flows it works, both flows.

Could it be that Ring is secretly changing something, see all the way below? That you now have to have a Protect subscription or something to trigger something? If so, I’ll go to a Chinese call-through cam. One that just works without a subscription, locally on my NAS or something, because that subscription is quite a bit out of my throat.

Most Chinese cameras are way worse than Ring. For example: the Yi iot cameras, the app is full of ads: when you start the app, after each minute of streaming, you need to watch a 1 minute long ad before you’re able to continue streaming, when you switch cameras and also a banner underneath the live feed. You also can’t record to an SD card without a subscription (well, if you want to watch the clips for longer than 2 seconds). NAS/ONVIF is also not supported. Yi is not the only brand, there are many apps that do exactly the same thing: V360 Pro, V380, V380 Pro, CleverDog, Ease Life, Eseecloud, iCSee, XMEye and many more. Almost every (doorbell) camera that you can find on AliExpress or Temu uses one of these apps.

The Chinese cameras are way worse with subscriptions/ads than the well-known/mainstream brands.

Your logs show nothing usefull to track down what’s happening, just a memory error.
Could you please disable all flows that have Ring devices in them but the one that simply sends a message. Also, please make sure no widgets on a dashboard are open.
Next, please stop the app and restart it. Wait a bit, some 5 minutes so we’re sure everthing settled, and move in front of your camera. After that send me a Diagnostics Report.

If possible, open the Ring app from the Settings - Apps page in the Homey app and keep an eye on it while moving in front of the camera to see if the app crashes.
This page:

Could you please perform the same steps as in the previous post?

This is the English part of the forum, please translate your post to English.

Done, sorry…

I have a flow running that reboots the homey every night do very unlikely the app crashed, I will try drestzrting the app

You may not believe this but: I went through the 7 steps you laid out above, but when I went in front of the camera not even Ring sent a motion notification. So I reestablished the flows and Ring started sending me notifications again. I have sent a diagnostics report but it doesn’t really reflect what you asked for I guess. Really weird. I have to end up rebooting the Ring device to get it putting out alerts again.

That’s great! The log you’ve send shows a bit more information, it seems you’ve setup 2 locations but are actually using only one, is that correct?

If so, and you don’t plan to add devices to that location, I advise you to remove the second location as it serves no purpose but does send data that is processed for nothing.

I’m also curious, when enabling all disabled flows again, if the issue returns. If so, take it step by step to determine what flow causes the problem and please show me the flow so I can see if it’s either the flow or the app.

One of thoses with the “my motion detection doesn´t work any more”.

Clearly could fix it with the advanced settings - motion off/on.
Thanks for that.

I just came to another question: You mentioned a new fixex version .18 - I am still at V2.14.14, even after toggling update, restart Ring, restart Homey.

How (often) is an update triggerd, or how can I manualy force a update of the Ring App?

Cheers,
Ralf

Updates are usually installed automatically, however, you can manually update as well by visiting this page and clicking Install

Hi Ralph,

Thanks for your donation. Much appreciated!

The 2.14.18 version is a test version. I’m working on better detection for mains powered cameras and have released some test versions for this. If the app is working for you and all your cameras that are mains powered show Live Video there’s no need to update.

If you do want to update, just add test to the url in the appstore: Ring | Homey

You are right. I have removed the 2nd location. I’m afraid that is all I have done though. Busy with other stuff. Will get back to it as soon as possible.
