Ring Doorbell, Camera and Alarm support for Homey

No problem

I don’t know if it’s possible to expose this as a security-panel, I would have to look into that.

Yes, there are two now, an audio and a video. Here’s the link:

Thanks!
It looks the same as the ‘old’ one which is now rebranded to Ring Intercom Audio I see. Although it’s speculating, I expect the Ring Intercom Video to work, but only for capturing Ring events.

I tried but I’m it does not work…

Hmmm, that’s unexpected, do you have other Ring devices, did authentication work? Can you check the authentication status in the apps settings page?

Yes, I have two other Ring devices (cameras) of which the authentication worked just fine.

Ok, thanks. I’ve sent you a PM.

With the help of @Rob_van_Ingen I was able to find the reason why the new Ring Intercom Video is not found, it was to new to be recognised as an Intercom, I’ve made some changes to the app which are now being tested.

For everybody who has a new Ring Intercom Video: Stay tuned, support for it is around the corner!

Danee, are any changes required to support the new Gen 3 door bell pro?

Unfortunately I wouldn’t know.
Ring does not release such information as it’s a closed ecosystem. That said, I don’t think it won’t work or I won’t be able to get it to work.

It may need some changes in the app because I expect it to use a new internal name which may not be recognized in the routine that checks if a device is battery or mains operated for example.

The only limiting factor here would be time and me not having the new doorbell. We already have 2 doorbells and I haven’t planned buying the new version unless I receive enough donations to pay for it.

Are there more problems with the ring app in combination with dashboard?

It worked very stable since dashboard was started in the app. But now since the latest or one before, the dashboard is multiple times a day crashing with the Ring Widget.

I tested with and without liveview but with both it crashed. So with the static the same problem,

When I use another dashboard without Ring, there is no problem. Also when I removed the ring app from the dashboard that every time crashed.

Is this a known problem?

I can now confirm that the new Ring Intercom Video is working. Thanks @DaneedeKruyff for the quick service!

Thanks @Rob_van_Ingen for doing the testing and providing information!

Important: The new app version with support for the Ring Intercom Video requires the new Homey firmware that will bring a modern Nodejs version to both Homey Pro 2016-2019 and Homey Pro 2023 which is currently being tested.

So, I can’t release this app version as stable untill Athom releases the new firmware for both hardware platforms, I will however release it as a test version later today.

Hi Marcel,

There is no Ring dashboard widget, everything displayed on the dashboard is just a representation of information from a device in the widgets Athom provide.
An app can not influence what the widget display or how they work.

thanx for your answer. Maybe it’s the app itself , all apps are still working after the crash. But with the ring on the dashboard it was many times a day, but I saw it now also without the ring, the crash, but its one or two times a day, and with the static dashboard with some insights there is no crash.

I think I send it to athom, maybe something wrong in the app.

Yeah, look around the forum, you’ll find multiple posts about dashboards crashing, freezing and becoming unresponsive. And they aren’t really relatable to specific apps or devices. :frowning:

New test version published

Version: 2.14.10

  • Added Ring Alarm Basestation
  • Added Ring Intercom Video
  • Prepared app for Homey Pro firmware 12.9

This version brings the Ring Alarm Basestation and the Ring Intercom Video to your Homey.

After adding the Basestation to your Homey you will be able to see the following capabilities:

  • Burglar Alarm
  • Fire Alarm
  • Medical Alarm
  • Panic Alarm
  • Tamper Alarm
  • Power Source
  • Communication type

and you will be able to make flows based on the status of the different alarms.

Obviously you will also be able to set the Surveillance Mode from the device itself and from flows!

@Patrick_Hunt the Ring Basestation will now be recognised by Apple Home when using HomeKitty. If you had your basestation added earlier, you will have to delete it and add it again.

And this version brings support for the Ring Intercom Video. For now only the Ring function is implemented, a future version may add support for Live Video, not ETA however.

Next to that, the app is also ready for the upcoming release of Homey firmware 12.9.01!
This firmware, which will be released for Homey Pro 2016-2019, Homey Pro 2023 and Homey Pro Mini will bring Nodejs 22.20.0 to Homey Pro for the environment in which apps run. This means there is no longer the need for polyfills 2 and extra effort by developers to support apps on Homey Pro 2016-2019!

Important notice: This version can currently only be installed when your Homey is configured for using Experimental Updates as Homey Pro firmware is still in beta.
Advice: Do not turn on Experimental Updates on systems on which you rely for operation of your home!

1 This version number is the version number which is communicated by Athom at this time, this may differ when actually released.
2 A polyfill is extra code that adds new features to Homey which aren’t supported due to Homey Pro 2016-2019 using an old version of Nodejs. (And soon this is no longer needed!)

I have installed the new Pro Gen 3 Doorbell. It connects fine as a device but when I try and select it as a camera in the Dashboard it says “Camera not found”. Anyone have any ideas?

What happens when you open the device in the Homey App?
Does it show a Live Video and/or a Snapshot?

Same thing. Says camera not found. Doesn’t seem to know anything about it. Including battery. Says no doorbell.
