Ring Doorbell, Camera and Alarm support for Homey

Hi, quite new here trying to pair my devices to my homey (early 2019). 3 cameras, 2 doorbells. Problem is that after installing the app (v2.13.0) I can only pair once. Cameras or doorbells. When trying the second time I get a network request failed. (ff5a346e-602e-42db-ba3a-5b66d7a45035). Authentication seems to be fine since I can easily go through repair…I tried: deinstalling reinstalling app multiple times, rebboting homey completely. Don’t know what else to do. app shows at ring as Android. Hope I posted in the correct place…

Additional: Downloading snapshots does not seem to work on the connected devices, web app reports: “An error occurred while loading the image”. Additionally I craeted a flow to retrieve a snapshot and send it to my synology Nas, but no file arrives there…maybe I’m really doing something (b3489545-44ad-413c-9e1f-575fd7b742c8)

Hi Michael,

Could you please stop the app, start it again, wait a bit and then send me a Diagnostics Report?

And I’m not sure what you mean that ‘you can pair only once’. The process is you add a device to your Homey after installing the app. The first time you add a device you’re required to authenticate, any time after that you should be taken to the device selection screen without the need to authenticate (providing there are devices left to add). Pleas elaborate.

Hi, what I mean with only pairing once is: I first pair doorbells (works fine), and after that the cameras, thats when it already fails, or in homey words, adding doorbells as devices works fine, after that I want to add the cameras as devices and that fails. If I do it vice versa after a new install and authentication of the app I can add the cameras, but after that, not the doorbells…here is the diagnostics of deactivation and activation again (fd825637-b127-485c-a873-ebe07d46297f)

not sure, but it seems there is maintenance work on home cloud, just was able to add the cameras and get snapshots…will wait till they are done and come back with news tomorrow…

Good it’s working now, but I highly doubt maintenance on the Homey cloud was related. The Ring app does need stable communication with the Ring cloud however, don’t know if there has been anything flaky with that.

Hi, had to do another restart on the app this morning since snapshots of the added cameras did not work and now it works like a charme…seems that I just picked the wrong day to start. By the way, do you know if there is a limitation of requests per day/week/month? Background: pulling snapshots for all 5 devices for my dashboard and would like to do this every 5 or 10 minutes. In other applications like snapshotdownload (github) via script this always ended finally (after approx. 2 hours) in an authentication failure. If it is not stopped then on short notice ring locks the account for days…Great work!

Hi Michael,

I’m not aware of a limitation, that said, I’ve not looked into it or do a regular pulling of snapshots for example.
Don’t know if anybody else is doing this and can share their experience with it.

Hi Danee,

thanks a lot for your fantastic work and fast replies, maybe someone else in this forum knows or uses it the same way…

i installed the Ring Community App, but when i use the card when The Doorbell Rings, it doesnt get the notification from my doorbell that its ringing?

i got MFA and deleted the device twice now and set it all up again, what am i missing?

kind regards,
Fabian

Did you try: Ring Doorbell, Camera and Alarm support for Homey - #5 by DaneedeKruyff

Yes I did, I uninstalled it and reinstalled and authorised it again, I deleted the card and done that again and surprisingly it is working now, so I’m not going to play around with it anymore haha! Thanks for your reply tho

Motion detection still doesn’t work in Homey. I removed the Ring doorbell (home) and camera (holiday house), installed the new Ring app (28 Jan 2025), removed Homey as an authorized device in Ring, then re-added and authenticated everything. The doorbell shows in Homey, and I replaced the flow cards, rebooted Homey, and waited. Motion triggered an alert in the Ring app but not in Homey. Diagnostic report: 5CC7C371. Also, I can’t add the Ring camera from my holiday house—it’s not found. Please assist; motion detection in Homey is important to me.

Hi Tom,
Could you please stop the app, start it again, wait a bit and send me a Diagnostics Report from the app?
The ID of the report you created doesn’t look a bit like the GUID that’s created when sending in a Diagnostics Report from an app. (Also, sending an unsolicited report is of no use as the contex in which the report is created is very important.)

Thanks. I removed the Ring doorbell, Ring app and removed the authorized client from my Ring account. Then downloaded the Ring App, disabled the app and enabled it again, waited, added the Ringbell and authorized it. Restarted Honey. Created a new fliw to send a push notification to me. Moved in front of my doorbell and got an alert from the Ring app but no push notification from Homey. And I see no picture in the detail of the doorbell device. I tried to add my Ring camera but that failed due to Timeout. Then made the diagnostic report with this number:
dbd0a0d7-1b08-4749-b6e2-c066782cdb4a

I still had problems too and unfortunately I set it up with Alexa app now and it works like a charm! I think Ring is just being annoying and more easy going with Alexa app.

I will keep tracking this post to see if things get better in the future.

Hi Tom,
Unfortunately the log doesn’t give much information, I see the Ring API seems to reset the connection as the app recites an ECONNRESET. I’ve not seen this before and frankly have no idea if there’s anyth8ng I can do.
I’m not sure it’s related, but would it be possible for you th move all devices to the same location and try again.

Thanks Danee, is the issue you describe the cause for problems (No Motion from Ring doorbell as well as not being able to connect my Ring camera from my holiday house)? The Doorbell and Honey Pro are in the same house in South Africa where I live.

Well I can be 100% sure, but seeing the error and the fact it doesn’t work for you is a strong indicator. Also, normally multiple locations don’t matter for camera’s, but for you it does. That’s also unexpected, thus my question if it’s possible to (temporarily) move all devices to 1 location.

Bringing the devices to one location is not easy as the camera is in the Netherlands and the Doorbell in South Africa. I also tried the other Ring Athom B.V. Official app and that has the same issue with the motion detection but that app will allow me to see both devices. I suspect that the Ring interface with Smart devices is generally not working in South Africa since Ring (may have) made some changes end of last year (speculating). I will start looking into alternative camera doorbel suppliers that do work with Homey. I successfully use motion detection in Homey form an Eufy camera have also installed here in South Africa. Thanks for your support so far.
