Ring Doorbell, Camera and Alarm support for Homey

It could be this option isn’t visible in your app as for some reason this is disabled in the Netherlands. I had to change my adress to UK to get this to work. But the thinking behind this request is that I don’t need this notification during daytime and only at night.

Hi, I have both my home’s Ring system and my parents’ Ring system active on the Ring app. When I try to add Ring devices to Homey, it only shows the ones from my parents’ house. Can anyone help me solve this? (Of course I’m in my home, connected to my wifi network)

Ok, I don’t see this option on my devices (yet?) Ring does roll out new functionality in phases, so I guess I’ll have to wait until it’s available for me untill I can look into it.

What devices are you trying to connect? The Ring app isn’t fully aware of multiple locations yet.
I’m awaiting funding to buy an extra Ring Alarm System for testing purposes and to be able to look into better multiple location support.
If you want to support me, please head over to https://ko-fi.com/daneedekruijff

I was trying to integrate door sensors.
I don’t actually need multi-location support. I just want when I try to add a device, it shows me the ones in my house, whereas now it only shows the ones in my parents’ house.

Ok, so you have 2 Alaem Systems, but setup in 1 location? Didn’t even know that’s possible.

no sorry, I explained myself badly.
I have 2 systems and 2 locations, but I would like to integrate homey with only one location. Could it be that homey, when it searches for Ring devices, only searches among those of the first location, ignoring the second location?
When I search for devices, only those of “Malgrate” appear, when in reality Homey is installed in the house “Matteotti_57”

I’ll have to look into that. It works differently for Doorbells and Camera’s
compaired to the Ring Alarm System, but I’m afraid I need an extra Ring Alarm system for that, testing with my ‘live’ system is not relly appreciated in my household  so no ETA can be given.

@Alessandro_Bianchini Maybe it is better to remove or blur the adres in the screenshots.
If this are real adresses.

Hey @DaneedeKruyff,
is it possible to “start a video” and a “stop a video” flow?
I don’t need the video inside the homey ecosystem itself. Just to trigger a recording inside the ring app

e.g. If I open my frontdoor, start recording, when I close it again, stop the recording.
Like the “live” view on the ring app.

I have a question about the Homey Ring app. I am using the “motion detection” card in a simple flow to switch on the front door lighting. This worked in the past.

Now however the card is mentioning the “motion type” tag, and the flow is no longer executing. When starting the flow test it asks for the motion type and I have to press the start button.

I see no option to set or disable the motion type or a card to use this motion type.

In the Ring Android app I motion detection is set to “smart” only detecting human presence.

I am missing something here. Why is my flow stopping, and how to default set motion type to “human” in the “motion detection” card?

I haven’t seen any indication in the information returned from the API this is possible without starting a video stream. As you know Homey only support stills so it may not be possible to do this from Homey.
I’ll put it on my list to look into. (And as always no ETA can be given)

The working of the Motion Detected card hasn’t changed other then that the tag was added. You don’t have to do anything with the tag. When your Ring device is capable of distinguishing motion types and you have a Ring Subscription the tag wil tell you what the motion type is, otherwise it will always be Other

The tag would typically be used with a (built in) Logic card or in a notification, see: Ring Doorbell, Camera and Alarm support for Homey - #142 by DaneedeKruyff

Recently I bought the latest Ring outdoor camera (plus) which I could easily add to the homey Pro. After I created a flow for it (on notification messages), but apparently the flow is shown as inactive and when I check the activity log of the camera there’s no activity logged after installing the camera in the Homey app. Repairing (maintenance button) or reinstalling it didn’t fix the problem. Do I need to add an extra user in the Ring app? or is the camera type not in scope yet of the Homey app?

Hi @DaneedeKruyff ,

Have you seen my private message?

Hi Gijsbert,

There’s no need for an extra user or anything, when you’re authenticated you can easily add devices that ere available in your account. What I don’t understand is, is your flow shown as inactive, that’s not something controlled by the app.
What happens when you enable it?

Hi Julian,

I get many, many unsolicited private messages, I tend to ignore these as I have made topics on the forum for all apps I’ve written.
If you have a problem, please post it here with as much info as possible. When posting in a forum topic the number of people that can help you is much higher then when sending a private message.

Its more helping you, so….

Thx for your response. Enabling is not possible (not an option in the menu). nevertheless the flow is working since yesterday even though it still appears inactive… I restarted both the homey app and ring app, maybe that was the solution…

Are you referring to an advanced flow? If so you need to use the web App (my.homey.app). Check if the flow is disabled. Advanced flows can only be enabled/disabled using the web app.
