New community store

It was about time a new community store appeared!

How does it work?

There is a one time ssh command you have to execute on your Homey.

After that your homey will request the site if there are any apps you wanted to install every X seconds.

HC-store doesn’t connect to your Homey but makes it the other way around. After the ssh install all apps from the store are installable.

Uninstalling?
Very easily just turn off ssh and your Homey is fully restored and lost connection with the HC-store.

Every developer is more than welcome to launch their app on the new community store.

There is a one time ssh command you have to execute on your Homey.
How I need to do that?

Hi @benvo,

When you created an account, you can add a homey after choosing a name the instructions will appear. There is a unique ssh command generated to make sure that the Homey is connected to your HC account.

@Menno_van_Hout Only for 2023 i assume?Older Homeys don!t support ssh

Managed to login and add my Homey.
But how do we determine versioning of the various apps?

Im currently rolling updates out every day.
Tomorrow version number and even history will hopefully be available.
In case a app breaks you can swap to a previous version.

I will also soon make a app that can auto update or trigger flow cards when an update is available

Thanks Menno.
You mean like the App Version Checker by @Adrian_Rockall?

That one is so great because it checks updates from the official Homey App Store too…

Yes, we are all working together.

Login is now also possible with homey community space account. We will share all apps om both stores. And Adrians app will be running again soon 2

Sounds great, but do you mean that there will be 2 Community Stores from now on then?
So 3 in total, including the official Homey App Store?
Please not…

I think it’s one community store and the Athom store.
My app checker is now in the community store and I will update it to check that store aswell.

Sorry, bit puzzled now…
Your App Verson Checker is in Homey Community Space
I don’t see it in https://hc-store.app/

But you say there’s one Community Store and update your app to check “that store as well”…

Could you please explain what the plans are for both of the above?

Ok, I confused as well as I didn’t know about https://hc-store.app/

Ah, ok…
But now I am really confused… Haha!

Could you please clarify, @Menno_van_Hout?

My question is: why? Why do we need this?

Getting apps from an untrusted (non Athom) source is not something I personally consider a wise thing to do.

And I would first like to know how Athom thinks about this.

If you have to ask…

The community store has historically been used to host apps that were, for some reason or other, rejected by Athom, or because its developers don’t agree with Athom’s publishing rules.

If this is important to you, just don’t use the community store :man_shrugging:t3:

Yes of course. I won’t use it.
But I was just wondering why anyone would feel the need to have their “own” store. I get it from a developer’s point of view, when he feels limited by Athom, but as a consumer I choose to stick to the Official store.

So the community store isn’t for you. Other users will trust the community store developers to not do anything nefarious.

Robert forgot to mention that some community apps are better than official Athom apps

I know. But most of these community apps are also availabe in the “Official” Athom app store. So the separate community store will contain apps from developers that don’t want to adhere to the guidelines set by Athom. And I have no problem with that, it is just not for me.
My question has been answered.

That’s not the only reason, as explained already.
