[Modding] Various Homey Pro (Early 2023) Modification suggestions

Well, both @Sharkys.
Wondering if you could still use online backup after resizing partitions. For backup and restore if necessary…

I’m thinking of doing this mod myself. If I get the 8gb CM4 will homey use all of the 8gb (ram) if needed or am I best to just buy the 4gb CM4.

Yes, Homey will fully utilize the memory and delay the swapping. If you have less than ~80 app, you are fine with 4GB though …

But if you already are upgrading I would go for the 8GB to be future proof the next 3-4 years. You’ll never know what functionality/features in the future will be available and will require more memory like the newest matter “app” from Athom which uses 172 MB hete without any devices yet utilized. Watch also the YouTube announcement tomorrow at 16:00 CET from Athom.

Have you re-sized the partitions yet?
Maybe a dumb question but i take it jailbreak in this way only affects the cm4 in there. If needs and i swap back to the old cm4 it can be done easily?

No I haven’t. I have enough space for another 40 apps, so I have no rush to resize the partition:

Wil one of these 2 work for an upgrade?

or this on:

I am doubting what to do, my current pro is really running out of (mem) recourses and I am beginning to notice it in the web interface.

A lot of disconnects, not loading of flow pages or freezing of (advanced) flow pages etc.

Today the HSH is released and I installed this (to try) within my HA enverioment (as addon) on my NUC, it has a lot of mem and SSD, so it is quick.

But I still need a bridge to complete the functionality of my pro and then there is the backup…

It is not possible to restore a backup from my pro in the HSH, so this results in a complete rebuild of my homey setup….

Now I am doubting, just upgrade current memory (have enough space) or manaul migrating to HSH and sell my pro2023.

I hope (expect) so. I’ve ordered the Reichelt one, because it’s cheaper. On it’s way.

The link in the post above yours from @B3rt to Reichelt is a CM40xxxx
So No WiFi,
Doesn’t work… in a Homey Pro (2023)

You’re right. Didn’t follow the links, because I thought to recognize them from my own search. I ordered the 4108032 (with Wifi and way too much eMMC). Planning to only change the board, not repartition.

Yeah I noticed that also, but you have the option to choose With wifi on the page itself, the 8GB version, 8GB or ram and 8GB of storage (which I don’t intent to use) for 92,51 this one:

I guess I need also a better cooling block and some cooling pasta.

After upgrading with CM4108032, I immediately used 2.7GB of RAM. Does anyone know what “Other” means? This wasn’t before the upgrade.

Before the upgrade you didn’t have that much memory… Now you have and so it’s taken.

Isn’t that because before the upgrade it is swapping memory and after upgrade it doesn’t have to anymore? That would explain why it is “suddenly” using more memory after upgrade…

“Other” has always (5+ years) been an “app” on my memory overview.
Memory usage on linux is not static; usually apps and software grab what they like, then they’ll use quite more memory; When free RAM becomes sparse, they use less until the absolute needed minimum.

With f.e. 18.5GB of free RAM, the “Other” uses 2GB as you can see:
(But “Homey” uses half the amount, probably because there’s few apps on this particular system)

(Thanks for the screenshot, @Friedhofsblond, I love the massive amounts of RAM & storage :clinking_beer_mugs: )

Thanks.
The SHS container is on a Synology DS920+
with maximum RAM.

Damn now Homey SH is in the mix, makes things hard what to do Upgrade my Homey pro 2023 with cm4 8gb /32GB or go the self host route I have a home server here @ home ?

Don;t forget with Self Hosted server You don’t have the hardware for zwave, zigbee, Bluetooth. IR and 433 available like on a Homey Pro 23 unless You buy a Homey bridge which is only beein connected through WiFi (Not LAN or USB !!)

But For that part You could consider this one : SMLIGHT SLZBMRW10 — Smart Zigbee Gateway for Home Assistant | SMLIGHT together with the Zigbe2Mqtt app for Homey.

Or This One even more : SMHUB — Smart Home Control Hub | SMLIGHT | SMLIGHT

Homey Self Hosted server could be running here for any Wifi & cloud devices and My upgraded! Homey Pro 23 would handle the parts which require Zwave / Zigbee / Bluetooth (/IR & 433 Mhz RF).

The would work/communicate with eachother through (the app) “Homey Link”.

By the way. These all Homey would be still a backup for My Home Assistant setup/automations etc.

hmmm going to upgrade 8gb wil be enough future proof
