I was looking for matter over thread light switches and the only one I came across was this Aqara one:
Are there any other switches out there?
I’m quite satisfied with the Aqara H2. It’s working with and without neutral and has 2 physical switches and 4 Buttons. The setup was fairly easy. Although it’s not perfectly integrated in Homey as it’s only possible to have 2 Buttons in the “Devices” tab, the other 2 buttons can only be used via flows (which is a bit tedious).
Also the matter protocol (Aqara H2 also supports Zigbee) does not support lights configuration (the indicator lights only up when the room light is on, it’s not possible to reverse that and have it as a guidance light).
Also I’ve seen other switches that can track power consumption? That would be cool too, but not that important.
I’m still in the testing phase and would love to be able to have 3-4 different switches before replacing all 20 in my appartment
Installed today - easy to link to Homey. I originally got the wifi one first by mistake - returned that and got the Matter one instead.
Buttons have a nice feel to them, though I think the positioning for the Decora opening in a wallplate is a tiny bit off, fractions of a mm. The lower button binds on the wallplate (not the one it came with, a Lutron glossy screwless one).
They’re used to control outlets in the eaves outside the front door, to turn on/off the heat-tape along the roof edge. I also have a 4-gang coming on Monday that will be used to control smart outlets in the walls next to the front door - so it won’t actually be using the relay, just the button push events.
The cards are just the typical turned-on/turned-off and turned-on-for-XX-secs/turned-off-for-XX-secs. It would have been nice to be able to detach them from the internal relays and get double-push and long-push, but ah well.
I have this one as a scene switch on the coffee table, and it works well - has double push/long push etc.
I advise you not to do it. They are not reliable in homey pro. I have equiped my entire house with them and even directly to homey with matter they regularly get disconnected and require a reinstall (repair doesn’t always help). This is a huge pain and i regret spending so much money on them. At least once a week i’m fixing a light switch. Wether it’s aqara or homey’s fault i can’t tell ( what i can say is that adding matter devices in homey pro can be quite buggy). It not being supported in the aqara app avoids adding it to homey with zigbee without an aqara hub which i would avoid too because if your link between the aqara hub and homey pro goes wrong you have a lot more fixing to do…
I wonder if interference can be part of the issues here.
Did you tune the channels?
Wifi 2.4GHz / Bluetooth / zigbee / microwave are all operating in the same band.
And Thread shares the hardware with zigbee (a.k.a. Multiprotocol), it’s not recommended to use (many) devices of both protocols at once (in case you do).
Thank you for your reply. Maybe i have to clarify my situation i little better.
Issues i often have in homey:
When installing a matter device in homey, it quite often takes me a couple of tries before i can add it in homey. Eventually i always achieve in adding it.
Overtime devices all of the sudden are corrupted and i have to reinstall them. When i use the repair function, the main functionality quite often works again (wired switch) but other functionalities don’t. Buttons to start automations etc (95% of my issues are with the aqara H2 EU light switches).
The aqara Light switch H2 EU works in homey, but only if you add it as a matter device, it is not available in the Aqara app so i can’t use the zigbee protocol which opens up more functionalities and would help me in avoiding thread / matter which seems to be a bit more buggy in homey, at least for my aqara products.
I don’t seem to have any issues with the zigbee or Z-wave protocol
I also work with home assistant purely for the advanced dashboarding functionality. My homey pro is my main platform for all the rest as i really like the advanced workflows in homey and the ease of use. What i do notice is that in home assistant that when i add devices there, i seem to not have the same issue of devices dropping. There is by example my Airgradient One, which is integrated over wifi to both my homey pro as my home assistant. That devices from time to time looses connection in homey, but it never does in home assistant.
I do have to be honest about looking into interference, i have not done that yet, but i use Unifi at home and i do have the setting that my wifichannels are optimized (i have an IT background).
