Lumance sensor for curtains?

Just the plain indoor motion sensors, they also report luminance and temperature.

I use all sensor readings to trigger numerous flows.

Sorry, just translated it.

Besides Aqara I am using Philips Outdoor Occupancy sensor. On sunny days Luminance goes up over 25K. It’s very usefull to detemine between sun and cloudy moments

This was the use case thar got me started with smart home :joy:

I use an Aqara FP300 motion sensor for that. It includes a light sensor. You can also use a Shelly BLU motion sensor. In my experience their lux readings are very close.

I get that many (most?) motion sensors have more or less accurate luminance sensors.
But in this particular case I’d really like to have a dedicated, small and discrete luminance sensor so that outrules most motion sensors like IKEA’s and Sonoff’s that I have few of.
The ones that ordered from AliExpress are really small and discrete:

The big question remains; Will these work with Homey?

Another thing to keep in mind is that many motion sensors, that also include a light sensor, measure and report the luminance only when they detect motion. So not on a continuous basis. That would be something to check, should you consider buying a multi-sensor device.

Do realise a number of those only send a changed lux value along with a motion event.
Meaning: when few motion events occur during the day, it’s pretty unusable as luminance sensor (which should send luminance changes right away).

The only way to find out is to add one to Homey. If it appears unsupported, you can request for support with the app developer.
These Ali sensors often are Tuya (whitelabel) ones.

These are sold as “Tuya ZigBee Smart Light Sensors” so I assume that these needs to added to Tuya Zigbee app. Hopefully accepted addition…:grimacing:

I once bought this one, it sits right behind a window, indoors:

It (still) works great, with Zigbee2MQTT that is.
Not sure if Tuya Zigbee app supports it

TY, I’ll keep that in mind.
As I already ordered few small ones I’ll try these first as wife don’t want to see anything like that in our livingroom window… :winking_face_with_tongue:

I got rid of that by a flow that closes the curtain say one hour after sunset in summers.
And added a outside tempsensor for direct closer when below say 7 celcius to better retain heat inside during winter and autumn.
For spring the prolonged opening is great to get the extra light, and also closes earlier when its a bit colder

A quick first update:
The ones I bought from AliExpress are really tiny and discrete.
Install was easy (Universal Tuya app) and values are updated quite frequently.
Battery life and how these reacts to direct sunshine still remains to be evaluated…
