The mini pro has a LAN connection. Do I assume this gives me full access to everything on my network that is wifi. ?? IE: i .e., I don’t need Wi-Fi airwave siginal as well as many things seem to want BT & wifi to get them connected. Thanks
Yes wifi and LAN are handling the same traffic, as long as both reside in the same subnet, like, 192.168.10.x
If they are on the same subnet (same router), it should still work. Cloud devices will always work, regardless of your network configuration.
Bluetooth is usually only used by the manufacturer’s own mobile app for connecting the devices to WiFi and binding them to your account. Afterwards, Homey connects to them via cloud (the Bluetooth radio of the device is usually disabled after setting the device up) or LAN
Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) is used for Matter over Thread devices enrolment. When a Thread device is initially powered/put in pairing mode, it advertises itself over BLE. The enrolling device (usually your mobile) gets the Thread network credentials from the boarder router, and securely sends them over the BLE connection to the new device, which uses them to connect to the TBR and join the network.
For WiFi and Ethernet, it is more secure to avoid dual homing (two separate connections to the LAN) and stick to one or the… but if you have the option of either, always go hardwired Ethernet (faster, more stable, and less prone to interference). This is actually where the Pro Mini beats the Pro, as it has PoE Gb Ethernet, compared to the Pro’s lack of native PoE and its USB 2.0 bottleneck of 480Mb/s limiting its network bandwidth.
Thank everyone, that’s a bit more straight on how things work.
