Issue with Using Homey Dashboard in Landscape Mode on Tablet (TCL TAB 10L 2nd Gen)

Hi everyone,

I’m having trouble using the Homey dashboard in landscape mode on my tablet. I recently bought a TCL TAB 10L 10.1" (2nd gen) tablet specifically to use as a dashboard for my Homey system.

However, when I try to use the dashboard feature in the Homey app, it only works in portrait mode. This seems to be a general issue with the app itself – I can’t rotate the tablet and view the app horizontally at all. It stays locked in portrait, even when I turn the tablet.

Here’s what I’ve already tried:

  • Made sure the Homey app is up to date
  • Tablet OS is fully updated
  • Auto-rotate is enabled on the tablet
  • Tried different zoom and display settings on the tablet, but no change

It feels like the Homey app is detecting the tablet as a mobile device, since the dashboard is located in the same menu position as on the phone app, and not as a tab in the menu like I’ve seen on different youtube videos.

Has anyone experienced something similar? Any suggestions or tips are highly appreciated! Would love to get this working properly, as this was the main purpose of the tablet.

Thanks in advance :folded_hands:

Yeah that was my first thought.
On a mobile device the app refuses to show in landscape (which is silly with these high res screens of many phones)

What does the “About” say in settings menu?
My phone says: “About phone”
My tablet says: “About tablet”

When your tablet says “About phone” it can be the cause of your issue.

On a Samsung tablet A9+ the app shows in landscape automatically (I didn’t need to do anything):

Maybe you should contact Athom support about this ‘flaw’: homey.app/support

The tablet shows as a tablet in the settings of the tablet itself. Not sure if i can check in the homey app what it detecs the device as. But it seems like this should not be a problem..

Have contacted support earlier before posting here, and they say the problem is the device itself. Bummer, since i bought the item for the sole purpose of beeing a dashboard..

So I tried logging on the app on my in laws iPad (7gen), and dashboard worked with no issues. So the problem seems to be the that the app wont recognize the tablet as a tablet. Contacted support which said the problem is the tablet, but this seems like an issue that is fixable on their part. Maybe in the future. But I guess I’m just gonna buy a used iPad and not waste my time on this.
